The Sanxingdui site in southwest China's Sichuan province is one of the world’s most important archaeological discoveries. Thousands of remarkable artefacts, dating back to the 12th and 11th centuries BC, have been found at the site. The discovery of the site challenges the traditional narrative that Chinese civilization spread from the central plain of the Yellow River. Some even believe the culture reflected in the Sanxingdui ruins originates from aliens while that is disputed by scientists.

I’m pretty sure most modern historians and archeologists already accept the Three Rivers theory for prehistoric Chinese civilization: I.e. that it arose from the Yellow, Yangtze, and Pearl rivers simultaneously
@Intranetusa
@Intranetusa 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Are there any writings about the civilizations that arose around the Yangtze and Pearl Rivers? Many of the writings I read still treat the Kingdom of Chu and its predecessors that formed along the Yangtze as a branch of Yellow River civilization rather than a separate independent civilization.
@whodis5438
@whodis5438 Жыл бұрын
@@Intranetusa for the Yangtze, look into the Qijia, Gansu, Tarim - these connect most closely to Sanxingdui, and bear evidence of the Seima-Turbino influence. as for the Pearl River, study of the Shixia culture in Lingnan region is due for a renaissance with the discovery of the neolithic Yanshanzhai site where they found 66 ancient tombs. the material culture of Shixia connects it with the Liangzhu, who are best known for farming and jade. the Yellow River, which we know most about, has now been linked to Di-Qiang from the northwest suggesting that the Central Plains’ Northern Han who evolved out of Yangshao-Longshan are connected to both proto-Tibetan and Altaics (AEA?) geographically placing them perfectly to later benefit from steppe technology transfer but not steppe gene flow, connecting it back to what you might call “Yangtze” influence, or at least their progenitors (look up Mogou). finally, East Asian genetics as a whole point to South China origins which makes this trifecta even more fun (as we anticipate new research from the Yanzhanzhai grave site). bonus: a third strain of Denisovan has been linked exclusively to East Asians… that goes beyond proto-Tibetan… more study results to come soon. Three Rivers indeed.
@Intranetusa

@@whodis5438 The Tarim region seems to be too far to be connected to the Sanxingdui civilization. The area around the Sanxingdui sites are 2200+ miles away from the Tarim areas in a straight line by flight. The early Tarim Basin inhabitants were also a mixed Eurasian civilization.

I love their excavation gears. The gears help them preserving the artefacts as much as possible from modern contaminants- including the researchers' breathe&germs. I guess they learned from their earlier mistakes when they excavated ancient artefacts like the terracotta army or the oldest mummy Lady XinZhui. If I remember right, the earliest discovered terracotta army statues lost their colors because those statues excavated not inside controlled environment, also thanks to the researchers&tourists' breathe, there are modern germs spreading, causing decay on the statues. The same with the mummy- they didn't excavate the mummy with special gears to protect it from the environment , so the mummy lost its elasticity and decomposing fast(supposedly she was found very life-like, with moveable limbs and blood in her vein, plus her flesh still supple, unlike the current decomposing mummy with shriveled flesh and immovable limbs enclosed in a glass coffin). I think it's why China hasn't excavated the first emperor's coffin, despite the decades-long of terracotta army's excavation. They're probably waiting for the technology development to make surre they don't accidentally contaminate and wreck the first emperor's mummy as soon as they open the coffin. Super interesting, China's archaeological development is truly astounding.

I see a lot of comments that seem confused about China's *current* culture, as someone who is lived in China for 4 years I will explain. China isn't as diverse as Europe, that is because during the monarchy years (so pretty much from the begining of Chinese history to 1900s) The Chinese government would do something called "sinicization" now today you hear the word and think of what's happening in west China, but that's not really how it's supposed to work, sinicization is supposed to be a lot more careful and peaceful. It's a simple act of giving another culture lots of stuff from your own culture from women to paintings and styles. That's why the dominant culture in China now is Han Culture. There are a few places that aren't Han however, but compared to Han Culture they are minorities. In the south within the mountains and forests of southern China there are a lot of cultures who speak their own dialects, while writing in Chinese. In the west is -redacted- and in the north on the steppes and hills are the Mongolian and Manchu people, the Mongolian people actually write in classic Mongolian while the Manchu people use Chinese characters. Pretty much besides that you everyone else in China is Han Chinese. There is of course the fact the south uses Cantonese but they use the same characters as Mandarin and practically have the same culture as Han Chinese.

It's not really challenging any prevailing narratives. Chinese civilization has always been multi-ethnic and we have been aware of the Ba-Shu states for a long time now. The Han ethnicity itself is the combination of all the various ethnicities that existed in the Han Dynasty, along with many additional ethnicities since then.

I wonder if the decripted Mali texts would mention something on the Sancingdui? If they had trade with the Egyptians of the classic period there must be something past on. Egypt did collect scripts through trade from all over and those recordings were past on to Mali which were hideen from the colonizer's plundering.
