Ancient treasure trove unearthed in southwest China sheds light on mysterious kingdom

“Complex and imaginative” sculptural works are among the thousands of mysterious artefacts that have been found in sacrificial pits at the Sanxingdui Ruins site in southwestern China, according to archaeologists. The items unearthed in Sichuan province have helped date what is believed to be a centre of the Shu Kingdom. Of eight sacrificial pits discovered there since the 1980s, six were unearthed between 2020 and 2022. The Sanxingdui site is considered one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th century.

Can imagine their application to modern day equipments, especially in aero-space and naval industries… these knowledge are priceless too. It certainly benefitted the Chinese having a long history and pretty much innovations back in the days.

This was a trash pile, like all castles had and things got tossed after new items were made. A new younger ruler redecorated and time moved on. We aren't still using WW1 tanks. What matters here is showing the level of metal work they did in this time period, which was done with copper.

China Sanxingdui. The most famous of these unearthed cultural relics. A huge bronze statue (2 meters height). He wore traditional Chinese clothing (hanfu). There is a dragon totem in the center of the clothes. There is a crown on the head. This is obviously the identity of the Chinese emperor or aristocracy.

No lol Completely wrong time period Things found at Sanxingdui have been dated from the 11th-12 centuries BC. That’s 3000 years ago. The Shu kingdom they’re referring to is the one from before the warring states period, not the three kingdoms period. Although the Shu in the three kingdoms was named after the old kingdom, it can’t really be said to be the same, because of the multiple dynasties that happened in between.

Not necessarily. Many are estimating that Sanxingdui is actually one of the oldest forms and bases of Chinese civilization. For example, the people of Sanxingdui also worshipped dragons, and had a bird that was auspicious. The most famous large statue actually has 5 dragons carved on its body, in the earliest form of a Chinese dragon robe that only emperors can wear. Not only that, many of the various things unearthed are described in various Chinese records, along with the Shanhaijing, a large compilation of Chinese mythology that no one really knows where it came from.

My guess is. It was dumped by the ancient people of that era. 3 kingdoms period was an extremely unstable time in which anyone with an army can claim territory. It could be from someone trying to hide the treasures from invaders or an occupying force keeping the treasure hidden to collect later, we will likely never know. Edit: it was not the 3 kingdoms era.
