My question is that would the seal be in a recognizable state with it being so old wear and tear must have taken a toll? Who knows maybe someone found a lump of jade and use it as a paper weight.
@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective4 жыл бұрын
Well that's the big question. Traditionally with the exception of physical damage Jade is well known for retaining it's form very well as many personal seals of individual emperors have been found in damn near prestine condition despite being ancient. However if the seal were exposed to say... fire... the material would turn a black, brownish colour and it would be very difficult to tell. I'm also still a little confused as to why the seal was found in a well.
@yaqiwang52423 жыл бұрын
@@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective Based on history books, a person carrying the seal suicided with jumping in a well. People got the corpse out not long after and found the seal. There are also sayings that a defeated warlord carried the seal and burned himself alive with the seal, so what you said about fire making it unrecognizable could be true.
@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective3 жыл бұрын
@@yaqiwang5242 Bless you my friend that's great research though I'm still confused as to how or why the girl who committed suicide even had the Seal in the first place? I assume she stole it from Dong Zhuo but I can't find the books to read.
@TanBoonMoh3 жыл бұрын
@@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective it was a chaos time in the Three Kingdom period, the servants probably get his hands on it when Dong Zhuo invaded the capital, or the emperor ordered him to take it away in order to not lost it to Dong Zhuo, and the guy is probably wanted by all of the factions for holding the seal, so he suicided instead
@johnnymoreno50653 жыл бұрын
@@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective I can answer this very easily since I know three kingdoms history very well. Supposedly how this story goes or depends on anyone I guess. A maid or someone who live in the inner palace who work with the emperor decided to take the seal and plunged herself to the well so that Dong Zhuo doesn't get his hands on it since we know the man might of have imperial ambitions later on. Anyways Sun Jian being the first to arrive there in the ruined capital found the seal on accident cuz he didn't think there be anything left in that city. So they pull it out and he found the seal like that. So how this story goes is that Sun Jian maybe wanted to go back home or give it to Yuan Shu depend on history or the novel point of view. After Sun Jian died I'm guessing the son decided that the seal was better off with Yuan Shu tbh. Besides if anyone have that seal it be a death trap because back in those ancient days possessing that seal was against heaven itself only the emperor should have it no vassals. Afterward Yuan shu declared himself emperor unfortunately he did and got his ass beat completely by everyone. The seal ended up with Cao Cao I'm guessing since there were no detail records who kept that seal afterwards. Maybe China will try to find it but doubt it considering how long it may take

To the contrary, relevant, sometimes critically important history, is forgotten everyday. More often than you might suspect, some truly important and sometimes 'true' details of history are often known to only a handful of people present and/or physically involved at the time. For any of a number of justifiable reasons, this knowledge is often suppressed and thus 'forgotten' and lost with those persons' passing.

I believe that the very significance of the artifact will in fact prevent the value to be that high, or at least prevent any transaction of such an amount from happening. If the artifact is indeed found and up for bidding, what will most likely happen is China pressuring the return of the artifact, using its cultural and historical significance as the reasons. China isn't one to shy from displaying its military prowess nor their self-righteousness, be it valid or not. This is especially so when their pride is on the line. It is also unlikely for the US to provide any monetary aid for Taiwan to outbid China since the artifact is unlikely to legitimatize Taiwan as its own country any more than how it is now, especially not to China. In fact, if Taiwan does get the artifact, the tension between the two sides is more likely to worsen.

From a historical context, if the seal ever appeared in a Western country's cache and they willingly admitted to holding it in their possession, it's HIGHLY likely that there is a near infinitesimal possibility that said artifact would ever he returned. For instance, why would the US risk handing over such an artifact to Taiwan when the current round of permanent state bros are currently still on an empire building shtick? They might offer it to Taiwan, but hold it for protection against invasion.(I could see Taiwan getting this as sufficient belligerency to push mainland China's government over the edge. But, I rather doubt that the US and other Western powers would want the headache. It could respark another direct conflict if the cultural significance is right. Now, I wasn't sure about the pricing until you mentioned the historical accounts if it being worth 15x cities. That's an interesting price point. But, there is an economic fallacy in the pricing as you were using USD (or if we used Chinese mainland money). If there was even the smallest chance that this item could sway the Chinese public to view the Taiwanese government as the legitimate successor of China as a result if this artifact, and it was enough to threaten to in any way undermine the supremacy if the PROC government, and the bidding was done in USD, the US would simply print however much was needed. Any possibility if inflation risks would be immediately recouped by the mind bottling increase in DC power at finally getting to effectively undermine Bejing, something they are going so far as to seek to weaken Russia and institute "AirSea" and the "Eastern pivot". I find it highly doubtful that the US limit in an open bid would be 1.1 trillion USD. Furthermore, this assumes that anither government wouldn't institute eminent domain or some kind of seizure policy claiming that the items and question we're legally obtained through war or some other methodology, and then just abscond with it and give it to whomever party who upon receiving said seal would directly benefit said group the most. The risk to global economic destabilization in my opinion would be astronomical, and as such, chances are that if said object exists, whether it was carded off by the Japanese during World War II or something else, that it probably won't see the light of day precisely for the risk to global markets instability.

@@Nedlop1 depends. If it was a Chinese citizen then sure. If it was found in an attic in America, the UK or Russia they're not gonna risk a war for assassinating someone else's civilian.

Saw something that looks like that in a yard sale 10 years ago… the edge of the bottom had two sized scripts center and edge; the edge section had very small characters while the center was large… if it was used as a stamp the small letters would have not shown up because they were filled in something green but not the same color as jade. It was about the size of a cigarette case and the “gold chip” was not president it was just chipped. Any rumors about a yellow/gold imperfection that looks like the golden edge of a cloud during sunset.

I think you found it. Should have bought it. 🤔 Gold is soft and highly probably fell off over the centuries. The remaining is the hard jade. 🤔🤔

Depends on what you mean by "lost". If you mean YOU don't know where it is, then you're correct.... Second, if supposedly lost by the 14 Century, how is it you profess to know what it actually looks like? As for jade, especially translucent green jade, I was once permitted to look at single piece of exquisitely carved translucent green jade of a water dragon, approximately 3 1/2 - 4 feet wide from nose to tail, and about 18-24 inches high in the middle of its arched back. The detailed carving was FAR FAR FAR beyond amazing- every single scale, the drooping tendrils of its 'moustache', even the iris's in the eyes.. I marveled at the decades it must have taken to create such a thing by hand, and then thought of how anyone ever managed to transport it to where I saw it, without damaging the delicate appendages. In 50 plus years, I have never seen a photo, or even a painting of it, so I must conclude that it too, is now 'lost' ;) However, I must assume it is also quite secure.:)
