There are several differences between this and Elder Sign. Elder Sign is cooperative and this is competitive. There's also the matter of price. Elder Sign is about $25, and this is over $50. I'm not sure a board, a few cards, and a few cardboard punchouts are worth 50 bucks.

Looks like a decent game, but for the price, you could get Elder Sign and both expansions...

Have to agree this game is pricey.

hehe, if there is not Cthulhu reference in it, than it sticks to what HP Lovecraft wrote. Touching the theme and horror without talking about it :) Great graphic design.

We own this and like it. It's a much lighter game than Elder Sign with much less set up etc, we find it to be faster too but we only play with two players. It definitely doesn't have the depth of Elder Sign and I would never consider it to be an alternative or replacement of E.S. My primary complaint is that there really aren't that many encounter cards; it seems like there are until you've played it two or three times. I definitely have my fingers crossed that they plan to make some expansion cards to increase replay-ability. All in all, if you are balking at the price, or if you have a small game collection that you play over and over again this might not be the game for you. Though we really do like it and the art is very cool!

Lighter than Elder Sign? That must be extraordinarily light.

I'd like to see a percentage rather than just an "approved" at the end. Whether you have several complaints or no complaints, it seems everything that is decent to great gets just a blanket "approved" like "pass/fail" grades...how about 4 out of 5 dice? Just a thought.

Numbers give the false impression of objectivity and precision. If you want to know if Tom had several complaints or no complaints, just listen to what he said.

I did listen. And a review is most likely going to be subjective by its nature, so I'm not sure it would be unwelcome data to have. I guess it's just weird to hear "you HAVE to get this game-approved!" and "If you already have x, you may want to skip this one- approved!" and "I just didn't find it that interesting- approved!" LOL! He could even do a multifaceted rubric to make it a little more clear: game mechanics- 4/5, artwork- 5/5...etc...

I'd rather not have a numerical score. I don't want metacritic to add board games.

He already gave 5 differents "grades" that i remeber. In order: 1 - Into My Collection 2 - Excelent 3 - Aproved 4 - Almost 5 - "Garbages" (this one he change the word from time to time, but the meaning its the same). So you can take from that as a mediator.

ohhh I wasn't aware of that. Maybe I've only watched "approved" ones. Thanks! :)

Hi, just wanted to make you aware of the THE DEAD EYE kickstarter currently running. As you were already excited by ANCIENT TERRIBLE THINGS, I thought you might also want to do a video about this one. I am also a huge THE PLEASANT COMPANY fan, but they do not seem to have a lot of reach and I almost missed out on the kickstarter. I am pretty sure this happens to many and they might be happy to see a video from you. Here a link to their kickstarter page: www.kickstarter.com/projects/pleasantcompanygames/the-dead-eye/description Here to the BGG listing: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/245994/dead-eye Best!

I haven't seen any clarification for this so far, so what happens when you play with four players? You don't refill the cards until there are ZERO cards on the board, at which point you refill. In the case of a four player game, the refill is like the start of a new round (as far as number of options go) so do you start again with the player with the map? Or is the map just worthless in a four player game?
@LimitlessMegan10 жыл бұрын
A new round starts when all the players have gone and the person with the map goes first. If the cards run out mid-round you simply fill them in and continue taking turns. New cards do not equal new round.
@N4M374K3N10 жыл бұрын
Limitless Megan It felt weird during our game though because the person going third actually had more choices than the person going first. So we were doing it right, it just felt kinda wrong or that maybe like the map was an after thought. Oh well, thanks for the clarification!
