Glad to be watching this in the comfort of my own home, so no one can see me druling over my keyboard. I love how so many An Cnoc expressions bring that level of complexity whilst delivering in the flavour department too. The best bit being perhaps that it won't cost you an arm and a leg to get them. Cheers Jim. Now, where did I leave that napkin...

😄😄 it is rather mouthwatering Menno. And, as you said, so is the price. Very hard not to be tempted when offered at the price that it is. Cheers buddy.

Hi Jim, this one & Arran 18 yo are typically drams that I had one or 2 times but didn't really connect at the point where, unlike many people, I feel like "I have to get it to enter in my collection"...no and I'll add it has nothing to do with the fact it is containing some sherry casks or not, it is just the style they have, for now, of course, depending on taking more time with those expressions I guess....Always interesting though to hear your thoughts about this one & others. Cheers !

Great review Jim… when you mentioned the cola and acetone type notes it reminded me of the Stauning Danish Rye … the AnCnoc sounds like a good one indeed!
@WhiskeyNovice2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Tony. Only ever had a sample of the Stauning Rye and, as much as it wasn't bad, I wouldn't really put it in the same camp as this AnCnoc. The age and quality are very noticeable here.

Jimbo, I had a horrible dream last night! I dreamt I was with all you fellas in N.I (for some reason Daniel and Rex from Whisky Tribe were there too) and I had COVID, but I didn't want to say. I couldn't smell or taste the wonderful whiskies being put in front of me. It was like a full blown nightmare! But I digress ... Well, that took you to another place, eh? I've had the 12 - sweet and floral. Nice. :). But this one sounds complex, delicious, out-of-the-ordinary / other-than, in another place altogether! Like Menno, I found myself drooling a wee bit. $147 plus tax and shipping from Alberta here in Canada. Ontario doesn't stock it. :(. One day ... one day ...
@WhiskeyNovice2 жыл бұрын
Aww naw!! The whisky nightmare 😄😄😄. Well, thankfully it was only a dream Rich. That even seems to be a good price for Canada in fairness. As you say...one day mate. Cheers man.

Thanks for reviewing this AnCnoc, Jim. I have yet to try it. And based on the other AnCnoc expressions I've had, I certainly want to give it a try. (However, the hints of cola and bourbon you mention... I don't know.🤔) Slàinte mhath

Another fine review Jim. Not had the ancnoc 18yo yet, but love the Glenturret 12yo ... with that in mind is the 18yo worth a go?

I'd say so Hellen. I'd say I actually prefer it to the Glenturret. It's rounder, a little more mellow. Cheers.

Great stuff Jim. This is a favorite of mine. Agree with the chocolate and raisin. We have these candies called Raisinettes, popular in the movie theaters. Cannot tell from the numbers on my bottle about the year it was bottled. Yours looks a little darker than mine. This is a beautiful dram and, although I rarely buy repeat bottles, this one will be. Cheers Jim!

AnCnoc is hitting them out of the park. I'm enjoying the 2001 vintage which is a 14 year old. I am keeping the 18 as a back up, but I couldn't resist popping the cork and sticking my nose in there. I don't know what I was expecting, it's just whisky. But holy shit. It's just so awesome in it's ability to consistently exceed all expectations. There are no off notes and the flavors just keep going strong. It's one of those that could be enough if I had to choose only one, even though I don't reach for it that often. The Ancnoc Blas as an NAS cask strength special release I enjoyed at a bar a few years ago forced me to coin the phrase "righteous whisky". Just a dram that highlights the experience of beating expectations. So that and a pub pour of Laph10 get the blame for kick-starting my entire journey. Would love to see a decent Glen Turret, I see a few stores with a bullshit $200 27 year old at 40%. For that matter it's a shame that Ancnoc does the 12 @43%. Unless it's 40 in the UK, then I'm really sorry.
@WhiskeyNovice2 жыл бұрын
Yep...40% here Matt. Yet another example where we get shafted on ABV. Still nice though even at 40%. Cheers mate.

Thanks for a realy interesting review! anCnc 18 is a good one. In the AnCnoc 18 I tried I felt rubbet tier and a note both in smell and taste that reminded me of Edradour 10 distillery edition. I can’t say exactly what it was but it made the whisky even bettet
@WhiskeyNovice2 жыл бұрын
Would totally agree with you there. In fact, I originally had Signatory Edradour 10 as my alternative but, I just thought the Glenturret had a slightly better hook. Cheers.

Great review...I would buy it if I can.. I did buy the discontinued 22 about 2 months ago. My 22 blows my mind and it too is not the sherry bomb I expected when I first saw it... It is so much more than what I expected.. So nice that it surpassed my expectations.. This 18 looks like one for me to hunt for. Cheers ..

Love this (and pretty much everything this distillery does as a full on fanboy of them 😄). Agree that it is very well balanced between the cask types and the spirit character. There is quite a bit going on in this one for sure. If you have a chance to have this side by side with the 24 they are night and day with this one being the bright day for sure. Was sad to see that the distillery is not open to visitors. Will keep checking back in case they open in late May when I will be there. Cheers Jim

I think the older style whiskys were more honest.The newer whiskys are probably more sanitised for the newer more global market. Another whisky would be mortlach 15 Gordon macphail that is different.

For what it is, at least presentation wise (46%, 18 yo, NCF, NC), AnCnoc is one of the best priced single malt whiskies available in Bulgaria. I bought two bottles of it last year for ~78-79 euros per bottle. Still haven't come around to open any of them though :) The only 18 yo with similar presentation I have managed to buy for less money are Tomatin 18 and Arran 18 but I haven't come across the latter for more than an year and a half now. Same goes for AnCnoc 24. 128 euros for integrity presented 24 yo is very fair price IMHO :) Cheers!

Proof, were it needed, that producers can easily put out great quality whisky for the right price. Pity they all don't follow in the footsteps of Knockdhu. Cheers.
