I got my result today. 448! 2 points away from passing, but I am not feeling so bad about it knowing that I studied and had the right attitude. Even now, my confidence is not depleted. I am ready to address my areas of weakness and give this exam another shot, believing I am going to make it this time around. Miri, thanks for all your videos.

I am sorry to hear you did not pass, but I sense a great spirit of courage in your words and feel assured that you will go on to pass this exam and become an amazing therapist. Our character is not defined by our failures, but by our response to life's unforeseen and unwelcomed circumstances. And I can see that you have a strong mind, character and resilience to carry you through every storm that may come your way. If you haven't already, please be sure to check out my NBCOT Essential Guide: www.otmiri.com/nbcot-exam-essentials/. It contains everything I wish I knew when I did not pass the first time. Hi Briana, I am late to respond to your message. For some reason, KZbin automatically spammed this message and it was held for review so I didn't get a chance to see it until now. I'm sorry to hear that you did not pass the exam. I understand how difficult it is to have to retake it and although it's been years, I can still feel the heartache tangibly when I remember those months of preparing to take the exam again. This is exactly why I created this channel- so that no one would feel the kind of anxiety, heartache, isolation and sadness I felt. I hope you know that you're not alone and that your past performance does not dictate your future success. Everyone's timeline is different and your own unique timeline will unfold at its perfect timing, even if you may not realize it now. So keep your head up high and breathe in until your chest rises towards the skies. I believe in you and in the great destiny of your life. With so much love, Miri.

I needed to watch this today. I didn't pass yesterday and I felt awful, but I know that I didn't work this hard for nothing. Watching this reminded me of the warmth you gave when you came to visit Dominican University and I got to hug you and talk to you (I was the one who said that I wanted to be like you and make videos! Still working on passing first before truly starting the foundation :)) I needed this today, and this motivates me as I make my new study schedule to pass the second time. Miss you so much Miri, hope you are doing well!

Aww Ally, your message brought tears to my eyes. I miss you too and am very sorry to hear you did not pass the first time. You know the content my friend. And you are more than ready to master this exam. Don't let your first exam experience define your OT journey because I know there is a greatness in you that shines beyond the score rendered by some standardized exam. You'll not only pass this exam, but go on to do so much more than you can imagine today. Remember, "defeat is a state of mind. Yes, it takes enormous mental and emotional fortitude to encourage your spirit when things don't turn out as you had hoped or expected. But the fact that you're still standing and trying tells me that you have what it takes to succeed, not just with the NBCOT, but in life. This courage of your heart will lead you to your dream. “Courage doesn’t always roar, sometimes it’s the quiet voice at the end of the day whispering ‘I will try again tomorrow’.” - Mary Anne Radmacher.

OT miri, do you know if there is a limit on how many attempts are allowed for retaking NBCOT? Is it unlimited tries even years after graduation?

Hi! Yes, I believe you can have unlimited attempts but there is a waiting period depending on how many times you've retaken it so please refer to the 2023 NBCOT Certification Exam Handbook pages 33-34 under "Retaking the Exam." You'll find the answers you're looking for on those pages. Here's the link: www.nbcot.org/-/media/PDFs/Cert_Exam_Handbook.pdf

Hi Kendra, how are you holding up? I hope you're taking good care of yourself and staying strong. While I don't know your exact situation, I do understand how discouraging and deflating it can be to not pass after all the hard work, time and financial investment. But, there is always something that you can do to improve your score and pass. You just have to regroup and re-strategize by first identifying what you're doing right, where you might be falling short and areas that need additional learning and conceptualization. You may need to change the way you're approaching the test question and learn again how to read and de-construct each question to better identify what the question is asking and eliminate your answer choices by utilizing clinical reasoning that incorporates the Frames of Reference, the OT process and the practice context in addition to the diagnosis and the population. Based on your message alone, there is really no quick answer I can provide to offer you tips or suggestions specific to your needs and current situation, but I do offer a lot of additional resources, study strategies and tips on my FB group and page. I hope to see you there.
