Moondog and Partch are both interesting in their own right (I've been a Partch fan for over 40 years), but rather different. Kindred spirits in the sense of being outsiders.

there is a speach of Mr. L.T. Hardin, that he does the counterpoint more serious than the js Bach.. I listen to moondog since 30 years! have lots of records from his work in usa and, clear from germany. he is rhytmicly on 6/8 and harmonicly a prisoner of the Wohltemperiert.. Harry is so openminded and: you re right bouth lived their being outsiders in a good way.

Definitely kindred spirits. Odd geniuses that deserve more exposure.

This, one of his few purely instrumental pieces, is a study he did while composing Delusion of the Fury. It starts with several short duets or trios, excerpts (or sketches) from Delusion, all the same length, in different tempos, time signatures, and "keys" (if that's the appropriate word for Partch's scales). Then he superimposes them in pairs, joining those (if I remember correctly) that have the same time signatures and tempos, but not necessarily "keys". I have the score for this piece. It's very interesting -- conventional rhythmic notation, but a different tablature notation for each instrument. (The details are in his book Genesis of a Music.) Even the notation for the harmonium, which looks like conventional pitch notation, is really a tablature: it shows which *key* to press ... but the pitch which is produced is different.

+Dudley Brooks Man you have the score for this? I have been absolutely dying to study that. I have the score to Castor and Pollux if you want to trade.

One of the Residents biggest influences. Saw one of his records a few years ago at Amoeba in SF. They were asking $10,000.00.

From listening to him, it's seems totally plausible that music can be completely microtonal or atonal, and still be complete conformed to standard rhythmic reasoning. A conformity of rhythm seems to hold everything together; his emphasis on building percussive instruments forms the basis of my opinion. Any thoughts from from his dedicated fans?

Everyone talking about Partch goes right to the microtonal part, leaving his great command of rhythm underappreciated IMO.

You never tune your drums to fit the harmonics of the next song, There is no need for the drums to have the right tone. Especially if your music is not songs. If I was the Residents I would admit that I wish I could write songs and that I have tried but I cant

If you think the Residents is funny, its because you cant face it and you laugh to avoid seeing what it is, and if you think the Residents is tragic , its because it is TRAGIC

This just means you have not listened to enough microtonal music. It’s not supposed to be tuned to the 12TET scales we all know.
