"going through KZbin watching all the We Sing reactions" Yep same, this is DELIGHTFUL. I remember trying to convey the magic of the OG Alan Wake "Children of the Elder God" scene for the first time for people and this goes so far beyond in terms of production and straight-up insanity that makes Remedy games so good, I'm so glad they absolutely stuck the landing. But yeah seconding (thirding) the "you gotta play Control and the DLCs ASAP", I always loved it and now it's so much better for [reasons].

Would highly recommend playing Control - not only is it another Remedy banger, and it also expands the world shared between it and the Alan Wake games, but it contains... Well, the Old Gods have fun, let's say. This sequence has made me absolutely giddy for Control 2, because Remedy just can't seem to stop one-upping themselves, and I cannot *wait* to see what they come up with for that game.

I started Control back in 2019 but never finished. When I started AW2 the Control references had me beyond intrigued so I stopped playing and beat Control as well as the Alan Wake DLC and it is beyond amazing the world they have intertwined. I highly recommend it! When I started playing AW2 again I was even more into the game. And the Herald of Darkness bit was genius. I don't know why but I was almost brought to just joyful tears by it. Clearly a true masterpiece of love and passion for not only the game and its characters but also music. Hands down one of, if not my favorite sequence I have played in my near 35 years of gaming.

I'm definitely playing Control and the AWE DLC after this, and I'm sure my jaw will be on the floor with all the connections, haha! There is something really epic and soul-filling about the tune of Herald of Darkness. It's hard to put into words but the way the song sounds, the insane set decor and the music video, the dances, but also the story beats in it - the way it all combines... just perfect and unexpected and somehow can't be any other way! It's definitely one of my favorite sequences now! Thanks for your words and thoughts!!

One extra thing as well: if you compare even the longest "official" version of the song - as presented in the official recording - to the section in the game - as seen here - you can tell that in the game they wrote and performed a lot of extra music to mix seamlessly in the parts where the player was "lagging" behind the track version of the song. But those extra parts are so full of depth and character that can only be experienced whilst playing the gaming and taking in all the stuff. Truly, this section is an accomplishment in interactive art.
@ricketygames11 ай бұрын
It must’ve been such an effort to make something like this. It is truly incredible though. The extra music blends so seamlessly and like you said it still adds so much it hardly feels ‘extra’ - what extraordinary talent on all sides of this production!! I’m thankful we all get to experience it 🤘🎸

It truly is! They have the perfect cross between being a game and movie, and the modern day tech for games just helps so much with that! It shows how solid their vision is and how amazing their writing and team are! To be able to pull off such a crazy musical segment just as a music video is one thing, but to bring it into game form and to have it be so epic is just miraculous!! Sam Lake is a true visionary and this game definitely deserves all the awards!!! 🙌 🙌 🙌

Well… I got several heart attacks in this game, so I expected that in “we sing” but no. It was a fantastic musical experience that was so different from the game that I couldn’t stop myself from belly laughing and smiling 😂. I did find the song on apple music 😊 (herald of darkness)

The chapter "we sing" has been the absolute best and imo on its own the reason that Alan Wake 2 has to be goty,especially bc Ahti at the end❤ - but they didn't top the Ashtray Maze from CONTROL,what's one of my personal favourite games ever (besides Bloodborne and Silent Hill 2)🤷🏻♂️
@ricketygames11 ай бұрын
It is SUCH a great chapter! I'm sad it didn't win GOTY but loved seeing them perform at the Awards Show! I'm playing Control now and am excited to get to this Ashtray Maze - I think I'm really close to it! Love Bloodborne and SH2 - are you excite for the remake?
@Hellborn_66611 ай бұрын
@@ricketygames I don't really know what to think about the remake - on one side it's my wish for many years to get a SH 2 remake but on the other side it's really complicated to keep the story and athmosphere from the original. The fact that Masahiro Ito and Akira Yamaoka from the original Team Silent are involved in the development,gives me some hope - but Bloober Team as developer destroys this hope immediately. I really hope they'll do it but I honestly don't believe - time will tell and fingers crossed🤞🏻 Have fun with the Ashtray Maze,it's absolutely amazing🤣👍🏻
@ricketygames11 ай бұрын
@@Hellborn_666Time will tell for sure! SH2 is a tough game to recreate with all its nuances! They have a a VERY steep hill to climb, Bloober. I liked Layers of Fear and its sequel, but what they’re currently doing with that franchise is a little… odd. Medium I didn’t find that great and Observer was dense but okay! SH seems like it would be a challenge for them, wish the Remedy team was doing it 😂 but let’s hope for the best…😅 The Ashtray Maze was AWESOME! I wished it was as long as the We Sing moment haha but at least I have a new fun some to listen to on loop now! 🎉
@Hellborn_66611 ай бұрын
@@ricketygames hmm,Remedy for SH 2 sounds interesting🤔 - but I don't think,a singin and dancing Pyramidhead would work for me🤣. I've played only Layers of Fear and a bit of Medium - LoF 2 and Observer didn't really hook me. SH 2 is a really challenge for them especially bc of the very critical fanbase of this game - but yeah,fingers crossed and time will tell. Right now I'm really deep in Baldur's Gate 3 and hope that I'll finish it 'til the release of SH 2 Remake🙈😂

57:07 You can actually hear Ilkka's real English accent when he's playing Thomas Zane; he sounds pretty fluent to me. My theory is that back in 2005 when Ilkka was cast as Alan (I was amazed to learn that AW1 took 5+ years to develop), he had a thicker accent and that's why they cast Matthew as the voice of Alan.
@ricketygames Жыл бұрын
That's so cool to know - I didn't know that Ilkka played Zane! Amazing actor all around, as is Matthew! Your theory sound super solid to me, that would make so much sense for why the casting ended up as it did. It lined up for the best no matter what. Absolute kudos to them both!

Alan Wake is Ilkka Villi but he is voiced by Matthew Porretta also.

16:18 "Our mind palace looks remarkably like our office here. You think it'd be a little more ... like her palace, like her mind place, would be a little more like her." Saga explains the first time she uses the Mind Place that she models it after the field office she's currently using. This means that in the next game, her Mind Place might have a different appearance, or if they switch field offices mid-game, the Mind Place might change.
