I have to admit that while I was, and still sort of still am, bummed about Magnus abdicating his throne....I am enjoying seeing him more in rapid and blitz and 960 formats and he has continued to be amazing in all of these formats. I think we are coming up, not immediately but relatively soon, on the end of his run as World #1 in Classical because I don't think he really wants to put in the countless hours of computer prep work to continue to stay ahead of the field but that is a small price to pay if we get to see 5,10, or even more years of him spanking everyone else in the world in other formats.

In any case, Kasparov is right: the WCC means nothing if Magnus isn't playing since he's the best player in the world. If the World champion isn't the best, what does the title even mean? Ding is 22nd in the world, that's embarrassing for a World Champion. I also have no idea why you think Gukesh will be WC for a long time given he is nowhere near the best in the world nor displayed dominance on Carlsen's level. If anything, what's likely to happen is the title continuously changing hands with only a few defences per player max given those below Magnus are relative to each other. Your comment makes no sense.
