Fabiano is the hardest working Chess player in the world up against monsters of natural talent. Probably the player I respect the most. He'd be the undisputed world champion if it weren't for the supernatural mutants like Magnus. It's a great century for the game. I love the whole field. Great game and great coverage. Thanks for bringing us this coverage every day, Agad.

Gukesh is basically gonna be playing a classical Armageddon where he won the black pieces

😂😂😂 Nice way to put it.
@NWRIBronco67 ай бұрын
Kind of, except if Gukesh ties Hikaru and one of Fabi or Ian wins their game then Gukesh is tied for the lead and has to go into a tie-break match in faster time control. So a bit worse than Armageddon with black in that regard, because a draw does not guarantee winning the tournament... AND a win DOES guarantee winning the tournament, so it's worth it to be a little risky...
@reun1clus7 ай бұрын
Imagine if Fabi/Nepo win their game, and wait for Hikaru-Gukesh game to end, and see who they play the tiebreak, and then see Hikaru push way too far, and lose the game and no tiebreaker for the last game

A good example where the initial statement looks clever but on closer inspection, it has no relevance. The time period is same for both, if gukesh draws he most probably goes into a tie break and it's a classical match.

Boris Spassky was asked what was the difference that enabled him to beat Petrosian in 69' after having lost to him in 66' in their Championship Matches. He replied-I learned you have to play Classical Openings at the highest level. They are the best and most researched for a reason. He had not played them in 66' and had lost so I think he was correct so saying that Fabi had to play a extremely rare variation in order to have a chance to win is, to me, suspicious at best. Good openings make for good wins.

@bungaIowbill7 ай бұрын
This is actually a typical sign of a bespoke suit jacket. Functioning button holes require hand-stitching, which means that factory-made jackets just have sewn-on buttons without actual buttonholes. Having an the last button unbuttoned is thus a subtle signal saying "this is a high-quality suit". That being said, the suit doesn't really fit that well, so it probably is a ready-to-wear suit trying to look bespoke

Everytime I hear "Rossolimo" in game recap, I think the same thing. And every 100 times or so, I share it: my father's best friend from college was board 3 at UNC's chess team. UNC is a very difficult school to get into, and board 1 was a ringer: a Russian "student" who barely spoke English. So being board 3 is kind of a big deal. I've played him, and I've watched games with him, and he's a better calculator than me, and I'm pretty good, and the better evaluator than him. I've played him a bunch of times and never won, although I've had the better position, but he's just infuriatingly SOLID. Then again, I don't think I've played him since I had the realization that boosted my Lichess score from just under 2000 to over 2200, which was "I'm not Tal at all: I'm Karpov." Anyways, he and my father used to sometimes hang out at the Marshall Chess Club in New York, which was run by Rossolimo. And Rossolimo was infamous for trying to set up ménages de trois with the members with attractive wives. True story.

If they had all been on 8.0, it would have made for a perfect final round where anything can happen and everyone would be looking to take chances. Now? Fabi and Ian will end in a draw, and even if one magically pulls out a win, it won't even matter. Hikaru will push hard and end up in a losing position. /sigh
