Well he was shown to be very happy with Eric's determination more than anything else. He did a jump in the dark and wanted to prove himself so hard he wasn't going to be satisfied for anything less than the win. That must be impressive to see from a parent, because it's crazy, especially when you're already doing well at engineering. During the restaurant takeover, he comments on Marida's plating to be perfect on beet salad that was supposed to have the beet in the exact middle of the plate and Marida's were nowhere close to being in the center, like they were severely off and he judged them to be perfect while sending the other teams back for having it off the center by like 1cm. It was pretty obvious he wanted Marida to win, but just couldnt go overboard with critique on the other contestants due to Alvin and Michael being there, if he was the only judge, Marida would have won, but then again, Alvin was pretty well rooting for Eric while Michael was the only one who wasnt really biased and judged purely off the dishes

I ferl like Eric was chosen because they see more potential in him and I'd say he does have more potential. Both Eric and Marida are great cooks, but I feel Marida was already very good at the start but stuck it a bit too safe, whereas Eric may not have been as good as her from the start but is shown to be willing to take risks, which played a part to the amount of growth he's had as a chef in this competition, as well as shows how much more Eric is willing to learn and push himself. You compare how much Marida has grown and she's grown a lot, but you see how Eric has grown and you can see a much more massive leap in growth. At least that's what I'd like to think

At Eric’s audition: Michael - No, you’re not ready. Alvin - I’ll give you a chance, yes. Claudio - Definite yes. Finale: Michael - Eric Alvin - Eric / Neutral Claudio - Marida In the end all three judges had to arrive to a consensus that Eric is Canada’s first MasterChef. If you’ve watched the whole season, you’d see how fair and kind Claudio had been towards everyone including Eric, told him the food is bad if it’s bad, and complimented him if it’s good. I don’t understand why everyone believes he was being biased with Marida, she’s the strongest contender against Eric no doubt about that. If he believes she deserves it, her good track record doesn’t lie. These judges are some of the best set of judges you could have.

Eric definitely deserved to win Masterchef season 1. Throughout the season he took multiple risks, stepping outside his comfort zone, always learning from his mistakes and taking onboard the judges' criticism. As the season continued, we could clearly see his progression as he cooked multiple different types of food. And finally, in the finale he took intelligent risks, mastering all the difficult elements of the dishes he cooked. However, Marida stayed pretty much the whole time in her comfort zone, only cooking trinidadian food, she never really showed the judges that she was capable of cooking other cuisine.

IMO Marida is the better cook and Eric the better chef. I knew Eric would win the challenge after the judges had given their thoughts, because he cooked with more ambition yet delivered comparable quality, and his dishes were ever-so-slightly closer to competitive restaurant fare. But if it were up to me, I would prefer Marida's cooking, which seems so nourishing, delightful, and full of life, a labor of love from her background as a mother, vs Eric's raw drive and passion.

What I hate in competitions are bias judges. In this particular case, Claudio was obviously rooting for Marita and even try to influence the other 2 judges perception of the served foods. Especially when Eric said, he cut the pork belly in the same piece. Two judges who positively enjoyed theirs were crushed with what Claudio commented in the end. And what do you expect pork bellies are like? Of course meaty with that natural fatty layer with it.

fr, claudio is the only one who’s biased against contestants (mostly women). the fresh fruit statement made sense to me but the pork belly? definitely not. michael is neutral and alvin was just a tough coach to eric.

it my first time watching masterchef. And this inspired younger chef to believe they can cook and have talent. i feel like, by watching the entire season 1 of MC eric in my option. has been the most underestimated, because of this young age and less cooking experience. but unbelievablely, he has proven to the other constants that he is now one of the best of the best. He beat Mairda ( i hope that how you spelled her name), created an amazing, technical, advanced level three course dinner to the level of masterchef standards. even gordon ramsay would be impressed. and also show the judges, his culinary learning, technical improvement and refix his mistakes. well done Eric. Canada and your culture will be very proud of your greatest achievement. you finally get to do something you love and adore 🥰 for a very long time. Eric; “ Goodbye Engineering, hello COOKING”

Marida had less struggles in the competition, while Eric was learning and growing, that’s why I sided with Eric in the finales, Marida is a good cook too, but in terms of skill Eric wins, perhaps if she was bit more risky we could have seen her become a greater cook then she already is.
