I never understood why John said he didn’t like this song. It’s one of my favorites.
@elementrypenguin31169 ай бұрын
John said that a lot about his songs: ‘they were rubbish!’
@redadamearth9 ай бұрын
John wrote it aimed at Frank Sinatra who was bashing the Beatles and rock and roll, while his "bird", Mia Farrow was trying to "swing" with everybody in the music scene. The lyrics are aimed at specific things that Sinatra said about the band and mocking Farrow, whom John thought was manipulative and nuts. He was basically saying to Sinatra, "you think you're so great, but you're over and I'll be here long after you will".
@TheNedH9 ай бұрын
It truly is a phenomenal song. Decades ahead of its time. John, unfortunately, had a habit of slagging on anything that wasn't relatively recent in his life and/or what he was at that moment trying to do the opposite of. And the press, especially Rolling Stone, and a tendency to print whatever he said, even if it was clear he didn't totally mean it.

Indeed, this is absolutely among the best covers of this classic Beatles' hit I have ever heard. The "Paul" on the "left handed" Hoffner Violin Bass is as good as I have ever heard. Any and every "Paul" on these cover songs MUST play a left handed Hoffner Violin Bass guitar in order to add authenticity to the recording. Great jobs guys and keep up the great work!
@ricardopena19483 ай бұрын
Actually for this song Paul recorded the bass with his Rickenbacker 4001S. Paul started using his Rick bass in the studio in 1965 starting with all tracks of Rubber Soul except Wait (which was recorded during the Help sessions but not finished until Rubber Soul). Paul was still using his Hofner for live shows but it was his Rick that you hear from Rubber Soul and the later Beatles albums with some exceptions where he used a Fender bass and for Let it be where he went back to his Hofner. But the bass player on this video did a great job making the hofner sound like the Rickenbacker. The Rick has a very distinctive sound which you can hear if you compare the albums before Rubber Soul with Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt Peppers for instance.

you have to really love (and understand) the "beatles sound" to be as good as the original... this is exceptional. anything from revolver (when they were starting to hone a unique sound) is good... by this point, they could trot out upbeat hit makers like this with ease.... [which isnt as easy as people think]. i love the melodies in this song... these guys nail that too. not sure what amps the (real) beatles were using in 66 ? (someone will know)... john was probably using his epi casino on this track (rhythm guitar) whether it was the "sanded one" or not, i cant recall... paul (on his hoftner bass of course)... not sure what george was using ...looks like another epi to me? big respect to nailing that solo... its one of george's hardest... awesome x

My favourite of all time! It has so much going on bass ending on that toggle, strident chiming rhythm (I felt sure it was played on the 360 Rickenbacker but there you go) and wonderful jangly lead lines, even in the chorus. Solid drums and as usual pitch-perfect harmonies, it is such a pretty and uplifting song with a beautiful melody, sung with sweetness and strength to an unmistakable beat.
