I bought an Andersen Ultimate 10 days ago to use on my new 5th wheel. Truck is a Chevy Silverado 2500HD Duramax that came with rails installed in the 6 1/2 foot bed. The hitch I ordered came set up to use those rails and is locked in by 4 pins. If you want to use this setup, 2 things to be aware of. 1. if your truck sits high, you will need to raise the gooseneck at leat 1 hole higher for clearance of the side wall of your truck. and 2 Be sure and check the distance between the bed wall and the hitch (A), and the distance from the center of the gooseneck adapter and the back of the king pin box (B). If B is greater than A then the adapter plate needs to be behind the king pin. For a 6 1/2 bed, you most surely need to rotate the adapter plate so that the ball coupler is behind the king pin. With my setup, I have almost 80 degrees on both sides

Just got mine last weekend, installed everything in less than 30 minutes, haven't really had a chance to use it really, just moved the trailer from front to back, but it seemed to work fine, the base does take up a lot of room in the bed and is very awkward to carry by yourself, however it is light enough for 1 person to carry, it goes in and comes out very easily in 5 minutes or less and is very sturdy. The funnel on the kingpin works great if you haven't lined up perfect, I wouldn't trust it going smoothly if you aren't already close but if you are in the realm it sucks it in pretty easily. I don't know what else to say, for about $200 more than a gooseneck adapter it is safer, more sturdy and just looks more durable than the adapters.

I have this setup. I have used it on 2 trailers. If you have an older unit then please beware of this system. You have to raise the trailer really high in order to clear the ball. If you're Landing legs electric motors are a little old and weak you will have a hard time. They will strain and you will hear it. Just trying to help you guys out

Bought a brand new fidth wheel with an anderson ultimate hitch and the day I brought it home I had to make a sharper turn in my 3/4 ton 6 1/2 foot bed pickup to get it pointed toward the driveway only to smash in the steel cab corner, smash the rear window and badly sratch the fifth wheel cap. Welcome home!!! Very frustrated!

What keeps the adaptor box on the king pin from slipping or shifting side to side when turning or applying a hard stop? It doesn't look like to me that the 4 allen bolts would hold the force of the trailers hitch from shifting side to side or allowing it to rotate around to the front of the Anderson Hitch. If that were to occur wouldn't the 4 allen bolts damage the king pin plate?

The weak part of the hitch is the Red Plastic. However I do like being able to set it up in a couple minutes on my Flatbed.

I own an Anderson hitch and make sure you torque those set screw to specs. It was installed at the dealership incorrectly, very scary when you see them moving around. Great lightweight, strong hitch. Rated at 20k at a third of the weight.

I can see this being just fine on asphalt but I doubt it holds up to rough gravel we have in northern Alberta and Saskatchewan. Too many frost heaves and washboards on the gravel and with little low torque set screws holding your shit together.. I like things that stay together, especially in places with zero cell service for 200 miles.. all that being said looks great for highway/non off road applications and Anderson’s levellers are the best, I need a new set since I sold my camper and sent them with it!

After you installed the hitch in the truck I see that the ball has moved from the center of the axel to behind the axle

the thing i dont like is the reason why the adaptor is not swivle is juste the pressure of the 4 bolts scrubbing the 5 wheel plate. i am not sure if it will not turn if you put brakes during turning. i know that your supposed to adjusted the brakes on the 5 wheel but you know that, when you leave your home and you go fast because holiday and forget little thing to do before leaving home... have a nice day

You must have a certain type of bed or truck for the use of this hitch, not just any ol type of bed will work for this hitch

I have a LONG bed one ton Dodge 3500 HD and the hitch in the bed has the ball toward the tailgate but I also read that in long beds you need to turn that hitch around so the ball is toward the rear window. I turned the red coupler around so its facing the RV and the pin connector is toward my tailgate.....I find most questions are for short bed trucks. Sometimes confusing..I'm just an old lady traveling.

I think it works either way, the hitch still pushed down on the truck bed gooseneck ball so it pushes on the frame in the same place.

Since the king pin hitch is now offset from the trucks gooseneck ball, what keeps this Anderson from pivoting in the bed? I see its sitting in the bed along with the molded sheet metal, but wouldn't that rip? Seems like there's a small hole at each corner of the anderson...is that to keep it in place but not done in this video? Thanks

There are several pictures on the internet that show this hitch completely failing and the trailer ramming into the back of the truck. Very dangerous situation. One was a sudden stop going 10 MPH and the other was a sudden stop at 40 MPH. I am thinking about buying a used RV and Truck that have the Anderson Ultimate hitch from around 2019. I am quite worried about this. Hope you guys can give me some good advice. Thanks

I have watched Mr Truck for some time as well as your channel and think your collaboration is a great idea. I am considering this system but have a question. From the gooseneck ball center, how far towards the cab does does the base of the Anderson hitch go. Here is my challenge. I have a 2013 Chevy extended cab short bed 2500hd with factory installed CNN tanks. The metal box to cover tanks is larger the a tool box. I need to know if the platform will go in without modifications? Second my bed I'd tall and not sure of clearance. Lastly with a 6.5' box I could see installing the king been backward like you did ti increase clearance? Your thoughts? Thanks and really like you channel.

Thanks, Yes, if you turn the Coupler around he’ll get 9 inches of offset which will work great in your short bed truck. Mr. Truck I need your help again. I'm having a brand new tandem axle 27' Travel trailer that weighs 5100lbs dry. Its coming with 205/75/r15 Castle Rock tires. After researching those tires, I can't find where they are made. I'm afraid they might be as bad as Trailer King and Power King tires that I've read so many bad things about. Here's my question to you since you haul so many different trailers...in your opinion, what brand of tires do you like the best? I'm leaning towards Goodyear Endurance but now seeing good things about Carlisle tires. I'm only going to pull the RV twice a year so of course spending more money for minimal use is not going to be fun but I don't want to buy a super cheap quality tire either. What would you recommend? I think I understand now the difference between radial and bias tires and understand that I do need to use a ST tire and am looking for an E rated tires instead of D rated. I only drive 65mph when towing.

D rated is all you need for 5100 lbs to many 8000 lbs loaded. I don't recommend Carlisle tires. I like Boar and Gladiator or Michelin if you have money.

So many step to install and hitch up until secure, then again thank goodness we hae the Freedom to voice our opinions/thoughts, and have the right to choose what we use and do with what we want, to an extent. I for one like it as its useful for pickup haulers, makes it much easier to handle and remove from the bed when you need it for other things when not towing, though its limited to max of 24,000 lbs and 4,500 tongue weight, that leaves usable to only heavy duty or super duty pickups with bed limits in that range at minimum. As a class A CDL holder I like it as for what I mentioned, but not so useful for more tow weight that Sportchassis or a semi or hauler pickup can handle Their testing demonstration videos do show it can handle, but then again those do not include fatigue from 'normal' real life use. I would trust it if I did need and have need/use for it.

BUDDY LIGHT What is it you think could fail? I just finished a 3700 mile trip using this hitch and it worked perfectly. It is smoother when towing than a traditional king pin and way lighter when it is time to remove it. I don't see the down side. There also fewer moving parts than a traditional 5th wheel hitch.

My concern is the kingpin coupler box failure in multiple arenas: 1.) the locking cable coming loose, unhitching. 2.) those grade 5? bolts sheering off from the force of the unit moving due to gooseneck style connection vs standard kingpin/box. A regular 5th wheel has locking jaws that encompass the majority/if not entire kingpin whereas this uses 2 middle portions of bolts to lock it in. That's it. Other than that, I'd buy in a second.

I wonder too what he thinks would fail, I just watched Andersen's video on the strength test and with a down force of 54k lbs the pin that locks in the ball on sheared off and at 66K lbs the frame bent, I don't see going to those extremes pulling a 20k lbs 5th wheel trailer.

i down voted this statement as a "gooseneck pinbox" on a fifth wheel trailer will flex, weaken and eventually rip the overhead frame right off. it's simple force of pull angle analysis ! a gooseneck connection needs to be heavy steel frame that is attached at the undercarriage of the trailer and be engineered, designed and built from the ground up for that type of towing stress.
