This video is legit and is 1000x more helpful than the printed instructions that came with these doors. Thank you so much! On a side note (and a heads-up to other folks out there planning to install these doors) it does NOT take 2 hours to install. From cracking open the box to finishing the project, it took me 4.5 hours. My guess is, Emco / Andersen timed their very best guy while installing one of these doors, who had all his tools already laid out and who has installed dozens of these doors in the past, and it took him 2 hours to do so. Afterwards, they said, " Welp, guess it's a 2 hour door" and slapped it on the box. There is 100% no way that a first-timer installing one of these doors will be able to do so in 2 hours. Great video, great door, good price, but not a 2 hour project, plain and simple.

Ian Hales It took me about 4 hours to do my front storm door, getting ready to do the back. You are right, no way you can do this in 2 hours!
@tumurock93696 жыл бұрын
My rough opening was rougher than others. And a bit too wide. I had to pad the doorway and customize the door jamb to make everything fit. Not Andersen's fault, of course, but added time to the project. It took me a solid 6 hours to finish the project, aided by the fact that my drill batteries refused to take a charge, so I did a significant part of the install with a manual (yes, manual) drill. Hahahaha!!!! It's a pretty straight forward installation process. Just don't worry about the fact that you start with the yellow bag and have 5 painted white screws left from that bag that you don't use until near the end of the install. (This on the Emco 400 Series 3/4 glass with self storing screen door).

Good video, I watched it prior to installing an Emco 300 series door. Good way to prepare for the job. One thing I will suggest are step drills for drilling the larger holes for the handle. Step drills excel at drilling nice round holes in thin metal. Regular twist drill bits can bind and tear the metal leaving an irregular shaped jagged hole. Other than that just follow the directions to the letter and take your time.
@jbonz5004 жыл бұрын
Yes, they ripped at the metal and didn’t look so great . I kind of chiseled off the jagged edges and was concerned but the 2 face plates easily covered up the jagged cruudy (sp.) holes.

Please add a link to this video on the printed instructions. The printed instructions are horrible! I could have used a little more instruction at 6:33 into the video. "The door may be out of square at this time". Nothing regarding how to square the door? Why is there only one orange spacer for the bottom right side? I made another spacer out of wood for the left side since without it my door was listing at a crazy angle and I didn't want to hold the door while installing the first few screws.

Soooo much better than the written instructions. Those were abandoned as soon as I found this video. Clear. Concise. Guided me along every step. Door seems of quality. Everything fits nicely. ****/***** The person(s) who designed the screw covers should be keel hauled. As for the person/person whose job it is to stick the MISSING ANY PARTS sticker dead center on the glass with industrial strength adhesive requiring extra clean up time, they should be drawn and quartered. But great video!

it is funny how the manual doesn't even mention drilling the door handle or hinge holes in the first place. if I had that tiny detail I could do a pro job as a DYS, I think they WANT you to screw up. This video doesn't even show my model(I have the 2500) but it is more informative than the crappy manual that came with my model. I am sick of most other vides on YT being full of silly people doing corny jokes or sighlant "music videos" with techno-rock music instead of talking at all! I am glad I found this even if it is not my model I installed my door entirely from watching this, not my crummy manual! as a note, you do NOT cut out the area for the doornob/dead bolt with a reciprocator saw like I see people do often in other videos! MISINFORMATION! you use a template and drill only holes. some videos cut out an oval. NO! that will ruin the strength and integrity of the storm door body! I am glad I watched this. mine came with a template but did not say how to use it. saved my door from being improperly configured! Thanks! I am subscribing! :)

Excellent instructional video. I installed a EMCO storm door successfully because of this video. Only suggestion is to not use a white door against a white frame. It would be more effective if there was a contrast of colors.
@rsmythe9617 Жыл бұрын
Very helpful video and I would recommend people to follow it exactly as it is much easier to understand than the printed instructions. In my case the opening the door was being installed in was slightly too big and needed 3/8" spacer strips along the top and sides and some other adaptations to installed the piston closer. These fixes were made along the way of following these instructions. It took me much longer than 2 hours but there were two trips to the lumberyard and some table saw ripping involved. If conditions were perfect and you were handy 2 hours would be doable but I would plan on a little longer the first time. End result was good and the Anderson EMCO 400 Series storm door is a good product.

I have put two of these doors up and both of them were in specs on the measurements and I still had to use the spacer behind the hinge. I do not recommend putting all the screws in the hinge before you see how wide your gap is on your lock side. Both doors did not fit and had to put spacers in and I learned on the first one not to put all the screws in till I knew it was right. The orange spacer fit perfect in the door jam with the door but the door would not lock because the gap was too wide and had to shim it

In the required tools section it says you need a file, (didnt use,) and a chisel, (didnt use) I bought these items specifically for installing this door and didnt even need them. The file may have been to smooth out the holes drilled for the lockset, but the holes are covered by the brushed nickel hardware so any jagged edges will be hidden, and the chisel i presume is to deepen the slot through the striker plate to the wood, allow the deadbolt to go deeper. Seems its unneccessary, they need to update the instructions, theres enough steps in the installation to make it pretty time consuming without making a separate trip to the hardware store for a chisel that wont ever see the light of day. Other than this the install went well; one thing they didn't mention: once the hinge rail is mounted to the door, it extends past the top and bottom, so if resting upright, it becomes necessary to prop the bottom of the door up to avoid having the bottom of the rail getting bent and crushed, so if you are putting it in the rough opening and then have to take it out again possibly to install a spacer or too change the handing to the opposite side, or for whatever reason, then you need to have a couple chunks of 2×4 on the ground where your welcome mat would ordinarily be to rest the door on. Also all the foam pads and those orange things are fine but I found it more helpful to have someone hold the door in the opening while you take a few steps back and look at the gap on the latch side,, then visually judge is it even all the way up and down if the gap tapers badly or is really wide then the door isn't sitting correctly in the opening, and needs to be adjusted. Also note where it says UNpainted or PAINTED screws, they are identical except for the paint, this will save you from having to remove and swap out if you used one where it should have been the other

I love how in my paper instructions it tells me not to wipe the low e glass, just to spray it and dab it with a cloth to remove excess cleaning solution. Then Anderson puts paper stickers on the side with low e coating... so adhesive glue is ok for the low e coating, but not wiping it with a microfiber towel? you try removing sticker residue by just dabbing it.

@Morgan I actually work in doors and windows at HD. And the 100 series emco and 200 series emco composite disintegrated after about 6 months to a year for most customers. But haven't had anyone complain on the aluminum self storing 2500 series. That's what i put up.

@Morgan they are a bit pricey. Hit up the reduced tag bay in the millworks department from time to time. I see the 2500s get reduced all the time at my store. Mine didn't sell and it went through the reduce process and didn't sell so they were gonna trash it and I asked to keep it. Sheesh 300 for a storm door I sure cant afford that. 😬

Don't buy a wood core door! If you're lucky, they'll last 5 years...and by that I mean after five years you'll know complete destruction is imminent. No matter how well you caulk(I even caulked the windows shut!) they'll get water/moisture in them and slowly disintegrate. I bought one of these Emco doors and they are no good. I don't know the core construction, but when they start bulging - could be anywhere - you'll even end up seeing the aluminum being eaten up(not rust). Is an acid formed? Idk, but that would be my guess. I'm looking at replacing with an Anderson 2000 series all-aluminum door. Wish me luck!
