Thanks for all the positive comments about this video - especially for the ones complimenting me on my playing. I really enjoyed the jams with Pete. But I have to address all the “Relic Haters” & their constant knocking of anyone that likes these type of guitars. Firstly, everyone is entitled to an opinion about a guitar, but because every opinion about guitars is largely subjective, it’s kind of pointless (and often offensive) to bash someone who’s opinion is different to yours. Secondly, anyone who thinks a Fender Custom Shop Relic Guitar, is just a normal guitar with a bashed up paint finish is really showing a total lack of understanding about these guitars. These are accurate reproductions of vintage instruments, made by expert luthiers, that have that “lived in feel” - like your favourite old pair of slippers! It is not the same as buying a new car and adding dents!! By all means buy a modern poly finish guitar, play it relentlessly for 10 years & see if it starts to feel like a decent relic guitar. It won’t. It can’t. Poly finishes were designed to stay looking new. Poly is a hard wearing finish & it will not age like nitro. You can of course buy a new nitro finish guitar & play it non stop for 20 years & then you’d have your very own genuine “relic” but I can’t wait 20 years to get that guitar! Or you could just buy an original 50s or 60s guitar, but good luck finding 20-30 in your local guitar store, and get ready to remortgage your house to buy one! Anyway - I’m not here to try & hate the haters!! I like a shiny new guitar as much as the next guy & if that’s your thing then all power to you! Just trying to throw some perspective on things & ask everyone to chill out a bit in the comments section. It’s just a bloody guitar after all! Cheers from Lee.

There is also the sales point that Lee has made many times recently. The majority of people shopping for these high end fenders are buying the relics. The perfect looking NOS versions are the ones that don’t sell very well. So if you put your business hat on, what would you stock if you owned a guitar store. Also to be frank the negative comments are boring and not funny any more. We all want to read interesting and fresh perspectives in the comments section, otherwise what’s the point browsing comments. Just view a relic guitar in the same way you view different colours. It’s just a different finish...
@skttl3s5 жыл бұрын
If people knew what the actual process it takes to make guitars look like this they would look at it differently. Relic has come a long way with the style and process and I honestly consider it an art! Also, would these same people also hate on roasted woods? 🤔 because that’s technically aging. There’s functionality and practicality with relicing. The feel of the neck in your hands and the vintage look to inspire you. Some people find inspiration being alone in nature and with a beautiful scenery, and other people find inspiration with talking to people in a crowded area. Some people are inspired by a well loved guitar and others are inspired by a Dueseneberg, PRS beautiful mint condition guitar. Find what inspires you and make music!

I’ve loved all the studio greats over the years and what marks them out is everything they play, even their noodling, is inherently melodic and just ‘right’. How many times have people listened to the likes of Larry Carlton or Jay Graydon and thought that what they played was just perfect for the part and could not be bettered? Well I always get that feeling with Pete’s playing, and he is spot on in any style, boy does he have a very big trick bag. Pete really is the complete package and it’s rubbing off on Lee too. Keep up the great work guys.

But I would need to play another 10 years at the very least to get the feel I want. I love that guitar but I absolutely want a relic-neck and I 100% agree with him. All these haters saying they want to relic it naturally with their own playing, blah blah blah. Good luck. First off you gotta buy a nitro finish guitar to start with and unless you’re a touring musician 10 months of the year or a guy playing non stop bar gigs 7 nights a week for decades on end, you will NEVER get your guitar to look or feel this way in your lifetime. By the time it’s finally broken in and worn out you’ll be an old man who can no longer play and actually enjoy it. So again, good luck to you relicing your guitars naturally.

Those are great looking and sounding guitars and the playing is SWEET from both of you. My only problem with Strats, and the reason I modded mine, is the volume knob is just too close to the strings and I was always knocking it up or down. So, I moved mine down one position, and made a master tone for everything. I superglued an extra switch tip in the old volume hole as a pinky anchor/reference element, and love it now. Also some med. jumbo stainless frets are just what mine needed.

I commented this on an older video yesterday, but it works on this one too. I don't see why Fender feels like they have to batter the heck out of their guitars' bodies because people like having a neck without the heavy sticky lacquer on it. I don't see why it should be restricted to Custom Shop, either. They know many people don't like the sticky feel, so don't add the sticky feel to other instruments to try to justify the existence of $8000 custom models.

I know that this comment is months late, but I'm going to make it anyhow. I wish I lived close to Anderton's, because I have a Peavey Raptor Plus EXP that I have modified halfway to Hell, and I'd like to compare it hands on to these Fender Custom Shop reproductions of Pete's and Lee's '64 Partscaster, and to the Partscaster itself. I own that all of the guitars featured in this video sound great(!), but I also think that my Peavey sounds great too, even with its cheap and stock pickups still living in the axe's pickguard (aka scratchplate). Will it match or beat the Custom Shop guitars in the video? I'd say that the odds are against that eventuality, but I'd really like to give it a go. One good thing: I know that my guitar is NOT "really expensive", even after the mods, so the value factor is firmly on MY side!😎❤️️🎸‼️
