I'd love to check out that Aluminium Snare and see how it holds up with a Supraphonice.

I was gonna say it myself and I'm not even a drummer. Really impressed with that alluminium snare!

Hoooold on, lads.. Yeah, the PHX say "made in Japan" on them. The new factory is in China. The PHX drums are the only ones NOT made in the new factory. Gotta get stuff straight if you're gonna talk about it in the video. I think Yamaha would prefer it that way too.

Great Drums and review , I think that new Recording custom is made in china and PHX in Japan , right?
@larrytate16577 жыл бұрын
I heard everything but the phx is made in China now, but the Chinese factory is amazing and managed by Japanese guys anyway.

PHX kits are made in Hamamatsu, Japan in the same factory they make much of their orchestral percussion. The $10 million factory Yamaha built is in China, that makes the new Recording Custom, the Live Custom (until September 2018), and Absolute Hybrid Maple.

Until Sept 2018? Is that moving somewhere else or being discontinued?
@drummaman16 жыл бұрын
@@IndigoJo Live Custom has been discontinued, and Yamaha will announce the new series of drums to replace LC in January 2019 (NAMM Convention). The early word is that it will be still made of oak but nothing is confirmed yet.
@IndigoJo6 жыл бұрын
drummaman1 No surprise really, the LC has always had a much lower profile than the RC.
@drummaman16 жыл бұрын
@@IndigoJo I think it's more the fact that in some markets the drummers buy and love oak kits, yet in my neck of the woods and similar cities you can't sell oak even if they showed you the tree it came from before they made it! Yamaha had a good 10 years of the RC to become the powerhouse name it has become.

Hard to believe Billy Cobham went to Tama when he was getting PHX kits for free.
@drummaman16 жыл бұрын
He only owned one.
@drummaman16 жыл бұрын
Correction: he has two, still has them. I heard him talking about those drums in an interview. Yamaha is not the same company it was 10 years ago. Cobham also likes his snare to match the kit not only sonically but physically. I think it's a better move for him.

Apologies for being a pedant but thick shells resonate less, the thinner the shell the more the resonance.
@musiqsoundsproductions8 жыл бұрын
Usually that can be the case, but in this case not. Probably because of the build.

Gorgeous looking things. I would be curious to hear them in person because in every video I've watched of these, they, let's say "don't translate well"... Yeah, they sound a bit like boxy crap. I don't get why you'd choose these over a recording custom. The very uninterested facial expression of the bald guy seems to point in that direction too. But beautiful premium quality drums that's for sure.

Here is the pure un edited or processed sound of my PHX toms, the reason why I choose these above any other drums: soundcloud.com/musiqsounds-3/fills-10x7-12x8-14x13-toms-yamaha-phx

It's a tough call and many people told me it would be a tough call. I had the chance to A/B a PHX with my Maple Custom Absolute Nouveau kit, and they sounded nearly identical, except for the MCAN had more high mid presence and the PHX with more low mid and mid presence. The weight of them adds to the feel, which is something that is difficult to capture on any video. The deal I was able to get for my PHX kit was too good to pass up, else I'd probably stick with maple, to be 100% honest. Still, I love the drums and they're not going anywhere for a while.
