This was a very helpful video. I’ve been curious about The necessity of I R’s. I wasn’t quite sure what the strymon iridium or the walrus cab pedal was all about. This video gave me a greater understanding of what I need to do to get my pedal board into the computer. Great job of taking a complex subject and simplifying it for someone like me, much appreciated. Hats off to TC electronics for this product this is much more up my alley.

Strangely it was the other way around for me . After using digital modellers for years from the Katana 100 mkii, Gt-1000, helix , kemper etc etc and finally buying a tube amp . The feel and sound of playing through a digital modeller vs real tube amp is just not even comparable . The digital modellers have come a long way and are a good cheap repica of the real amp. Its like saying the digital photo captures the real scenery. And yes that is partly true - just a 1 dimension replication.
@zer0dave
@zer0dave 6 ай бұрын
@@joshuafernandes4935those are great points but the problems start when you try to record that great tube amp accurately into your DAW. The only way to do this aside from a Two Note loader is with a mic on the speaker and if you don’t have the luxury of cranking the amp to the needed levels, you’re going to be disappointed with the result. Running an IR loader like this in place of the speaker provides results that are very comparable on playback (Ive done comparisons and it’s scary close and even better in some circumstances where mic placement isn’t ideal and the IR is captured really well) and you get the added benefit of not pissing your family off at midnight 😂. Also, people often forget that it all becomes digital once it’s in your DAW anyway so a pedal like this is a great solution for those aforementioned problems.
@Fonkemman

It's not actually the amp part that is impossible to replicate. It's the cab speakers and how it feels in the room.

Thanks for showing and testing this little, helpful unit. IR length is not so important as many think for usual playing (if you don´t want special room sound), Pete Thorn did a great video where he shortened the IR lenght till 15,16 msec till the sound began to "die". Strymon Iridium works with 500msec, I think/feels better than the 170msec of fractal, it´s got more headroom in my opinion.

I use a POD HD500X and it really does sound good. The biggest downfall of the pod, for me, is that the built in cabs are not great. This is the way to fix that. A lot of people recommend the mooer radar but this is on sale at the moment. I can’t wait to give this a try because I’m sure it will breathe new life into the pod. I’d rather spend $100 than $1k on a newer modeler.

Impulse responses are actually the basis for all audio filtering. It’s not just for amp modeling. Things like compression/EQ can be done with just IRs. You can actually emulate any pedal or filter by figuring out the IR for a given system. To do that, you send a unit impulse through it, and the output is the IR. Another option is sine sweeps. Not sure what these pedals do, but they may try to approximate a sine sweep by recording a set amount of time of you playing

So you mean we can actually replace IRs with a compressor and EQ circuit and avoid digitalisation ? To me it just make sense that at some point they'd come up with great analog amp and cab sims. It exists but it's not yet so popular so maybe it's just a matter of R&D. The focus shouldn't be to recreate vintage stuff but to create a great modern simple solution and sound that is easy to mix.

i have one. its great. simple, easy to use. sometimes i just run drives in to the pedal platform IRs. even clean reverb etc in to them is cool. for those asking comparison to other IR loaders, whats the point? loading the same IRs on to each? really all you need to know is latency and the millisecond storage for each IR loader. TC not sure about the latency but seems fine and it has 200ms IRs. it was between the mooer and tc for me and the tc was cheaper and i liked the simplicity and the official celestion. i havent needed to load any other IRs just happy with the stock.

Our opinion is that Music Tribe/Behringer is a multi-billion company that adopts opportunistic and at times also borderline exploitative strategies in order to maximize its profits. That's their priority, and there's nothing wrong with prioritizing profits, but they take it to extremes that sometimes conflict with ethics - no other major company in the musical instrument industry does what they do. It regularly tries to get free exposure from KZbinrs without paying them, it has sued people for expressing their opinions about its products, and publicly mocked journalists who criticize them. It also produced a chauvinistic video ad at some point, among other things. And in case you are wondering, yes, their TC staff tried to get us to do some promo for them "without a budget" (at the peak of the pandemic, no less) otherwise, we wouldn't post this. No multi-billion dollar company should ask anyone to work for free. Here's an in-depth analysis of the company's history of questionable behavior: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pma1hHyNl79pjMU

Doesn't take long buying the pedals on that table before you could just buy an Axe FX AX8 or FM3 for less.

I put an Xotic bb preamp an it does nothing!!! So lifeless and dull! This little unit in my hands sucks! doesn't sound anything like it does in this video. What pedal apart from that one big pedal you guys have can i buy for it to sounds amp like and alive? I am a bit frustrated about the quality of sound from this pedal...

Have you tried with a blues driver? On the BB maybe try maxing the treble. It also depends on your PA system.

somebody didn't watch the video in full did they ;) look out for the specific Mooer Radar reference... but basically the TC unit is about 10 times more powerful than the Radar!

John's a good guitar player... But don't get emotion... And as a sound engineer.. You can say just going into the desk is lifeless.. Then again I did a lot of sessions at gooseberry studios when I was a tape op there.. And to use rack fx going into a never vx desk.. Singing a drawer 1960 Como.. A tubeteck valve eq kicks the shit out of those winy pedals.... Case in point the lead break in brick in the wall.. Straight in the desk led Paul.... But it has to be a good desk and valve rack stiff.. Those pedal are winy tiny crap.. But I guess if you swing ya ears you can pretend I do Love my Bias amps in my Mac... But ya know the jcm 800 hits you in the body and is well takes you somewhere, maybe simpler then John's playing but means more tme

Don't you think these amp+cab sim pedals could be made all analog with Overdrive+EQ+Compressor circuits ? With the right R&D eventually they could come up with something great. I don't see an absolute need for digitalisation. And all these little details the cab speaker gives to the sound, I also wonder if there's a part of it which makes the sound capture and mixing more complicated. Having to use multiple mics, just to allow capturing lost frequencies. And then it still needs post processing, more EQ and compression.
