An affordable guitar is a $150 Harley-Benton or entry range Yamaha Pacifica at around $200. At 9:50 I think Pete makes the very common misinterpretation with this guitar. The middle position is BOTH humbucker pickups and not the isolated middle. Hence this model offers all those extra sounds available from splitting the Hs independently.
@JIAbbot3 жыл бұрын
@ Tom Yates: Respectfully, that’s not correct. The middle position on the PRS Special Semi-Hollow is PRS’s proprietary “Narrowfield” pup. PRS compares this pickup to a cross between and among a humbucker, a P-90, a vintage single-coil, and a mini humbucker. The misread you make is exceedingly easy to make; I only know otherwise because I have been poring over every detail of this guitar for the past several days and probably know more about it than I want to, given how firmly inaccessible its price tag is to me at the moment.
@tomyates25513 жыл бұрын
@@JIAbbot interesting. Because in PRS’s own official videos about this model (and the previous Special Semi Hollow released with MT pickups) which are both available on KZbin, Bryan states in no uncertain terms that the middle position is both humbuckers.
@mfhorgan3 жыл бұрын
@@tomyates2551 Agreed. Everything I’ve seen (including the PRS website and their demo videos), the Studio has the typical strat wiring but the middle position on the Special is neck + bridge. Since Jerry Garcia lived on the middle pickup, it’s no super eagle replacement.

@@fredjaeger690 THIS guitar is two low-wind humbuckers that can both be tapped individually (not split) and a narrow field middle that can’t be selected by itself. The title mentions Super Eagle which is Mayer’s Dead & Co guitar. My point was Jerry played a lot of middle pickup alone (Dimarzio super 2, supposedly split coil) and middle+bridge (pos2 of strat), so Mayer needs to play a lot of middle pos, so without rewiring this guitar, it can’t be a super eagle. If I had this, I would probably rewire the 5-way with the regular strat selection then put in a push-pull on the tone knob with the “Gilmour mod” to get the middle les Paul selection that this guitar has natively. Then it could be a mini-super eagle. I also wish they offered a pattern thin profile.
