I bought a HT drive a while ago. I didn't get much that was 'unique' out of it when I plugged it into my main amp, but I found it did a really good job with my solid-state practice amp, made it sound that much more authentic. Good cheaper alternative to upgrading to a real valve amp if you're still at that stage where all you own is an entry level practice amp (cube, vypyr, spider etc)

Great reviewage, guys, thanks! As a player of Blackstar amps who's never played their pedals, all I can say is ... wow! These are some amazing pedals.

Ive been using the HT dual since it came out; I try all of the new stuff and nothing comes close for me.. The DI is awesome, go to a gig/session without an amp and still have killer tone!

I really enjoy the demo reviews by everyone at Andertons it must be great working there. And though I like to hear what an instrument, amp, or pedal etc might sound like before I might buy it, I never take too much notice of the sound coming out of my computers speakers. I mainly rely on the respect I have for the person doing the demo and take their opinion about its quality, value, best uses and the live sound they are hearing live while they demo it. Anyway I really respect you guys at Andertons and have splashed out and bought the Drive Pedal after watching this vid. The tracking says I'll have it delivered and in my grubby little hands over here in Australia next Tuesday, great stuff.

Proud owner for an HT-DistX and still use it for home recording/extra layers to this day. It's a versatile little bugger when dialed in right.

Hi ! How's the emulated output on these babies ?
@patchworkboy878 жыл бұрын
I think they're pretty decent. I have an old video on my channel that used the emulated output directly into my PC mic (bad move, I know) - they sound quite full and rounded, and even better when run into a cabinet simulator.

I own Distx and Boost, wich was a nice surprise. Tubescreamer is amazing for solos, but the HT-boost is a real part of your amp and upgrades my 50 watts to a full stack tone and headroom. Overall, I guess its more interesting than TS9. The Distx is much more clear than what this videos suggests. In fact the Dist is too much brighty and DistX looks like a JCM900 on steroids, but not a real extreme distortion, less gain than a Metal Zone. All blackstar pedals are very quiet and dynamic, but you cannot change its own tone using the gain knob, thus it will be always almost the same, just skinny to thicker, airly to solid notes... You find the halfway from the 10 to the 3 o´clock. Very important: all they will only work well on the bright input (or bright switch on); they are not preamps as well, just good gain pedals. Not for return input, not for thicker amps without bright switch, not to boost the dirty channel (except HT-Boost, of course).

I like your presentation of the blackstar valve pedals... I'm wondering if you can use these baby's through a solid state amp or are they only made for valve amps? :)
@Kothag8 жыл бұрын
I've had the HT-Dist for ages, and I've never really been that impressed with it. The pots got scratchy fairly quickly, and the overall tone is not anything to write home about. The emulated output is lackluster. The EQ section is probably the best feature of the pedal. I'd only recommend this if you have a clean amp with limited eq controls, say something like a Fender Pro Junior. These pedals are not substitutes for true pro tube pre-amps.

The HTDUAL served me well for a long time. Great tones if used appropriately. (essentially a HT-5 pre: so run it through something high-headroom to elevate the compression). Heavy as hell though, and I soon migrated to a smaller board. These are good deals -- though!

So, I have a cheapo solid state amp (Blackstar ID:CORE 10) and i have been looking for an upgrade. Right now I can't really afford a full valve amp (not to mention I live in an apartment) so would putting a valve powered preamp pedal like this in front of my amp get me close to that sound or are they meant for a valve amp and this won't help?
@AWsounds8 жыл бұрын
Use one of these (HT-DistX) in front of a solid state amp and it sounds massive. I've also DI'd into a PA as it has a great simulated output with good success, so definitely recommended if you want to go big tone without big price, go these.

You could also get a second hand Blackstar HT 5, I have two of the head versions... one HT5R and the other the Metal 5. Which will get you these tones also. The main problem with the smaller amps is the speaker size, you really need a 12" speaker to get the tones. Although one of these pedals into a PA I agree would sound great!

Massive through Fender, muddy through Marshall :-(
@HermelJaworski8 жыл бұрын
Because the Fender has more headroom than the marshall and the valve are compressing the signal.
@crazyjoe15408 жыл бұрын
+Hermel J. 15 watt amp has more headroom than a 30 watt amp? I'd say it's more due to the marshall being massively mid scooped, whoever set that thing up needs to dial more mids in.
@HermelJaworski8 жыл бұрын
Headroom doesn't necessarily depends on wattage. In this video, the fender is set really clean while the marshall is already crunchy, so the valves of the amp are already compressing.
