Somehow everything I hear from TEO-5 I want to make into a song. Choosing between PB12 and TEO-5 for my poly and last one is winning. And not because of a price. It has “it”.
@andyscott52772 ай бұрын
Agreed. Even with all of PB12s modulation capabilities, TEO-5s raw sound is just there. Far superior to my ears.

I wouldn't recommend getting the PB 12. You will end up wanting great core oscillators and a great core filter sound.

Man I really wish someone would demo some softer low pass keys sounds. The ob6 is excellent at this and I haven’t seen one TEO video of someone playing these sounds. I know it can do hard and brash sounds but I want to hear some softer keys.

I wonder if adding some lows and low mids with an EQ and perhaps a bit of compression will make it a bit thicker sounding. I’ve been listening to the real OBX the OB8x and OB6. And besides the obvious number of voices and oscillators. The OBX seems to sound more open then the other 2. The TEO-5 kind off have that similar vibe, not as thick and deep sounding of course but definitely more open. And the filter sweep seems sweeter on the TEO-5 than the OB8X and OB-6. Could be having more top end and presence.

Until I owned an OB-8, I was also one of those "idiots" that automatically assumed, 2-pole VCFs are inferior to 4-pole VCFs just because the lower number. With (physical) OB synths it's the case that in 2-pole mode literally the sun rises at max cutoff (with max ENV depth). On OB-8 & Xa The 4pol sounds much darker. 99.9% of the time I never needed it. Ultimately, the world's best 2-pole VCFs are Oberheim's base for their elitist image - certainly not without reason!

@andyscott52772 ай бұрын
So different from the Matriarch, would want both I reckon. They do drastically different things. When it comes to this vs the Take 5, I’d say it comes down to which filter you prefer, that of Oberheim or Sequential?
@tntshuffle-97992 ай бұрын
@andyscott5277 That's just it. Not sure which one. I've even been contemplating the Korg MS20, because I love the sounds. But I feel like the Matriarch might have a similar filter sound. I feel like I would need to hear them side by side to truly decide.

Why don't the bass resonate? The Oberheims always stood out in that, but here everything sounds very flat. Did they do something wrong with the sound of the video? I know that KZbin is not reliable, but there are dives of TAKE5 and TEO5 where the subbass is better appreciated. 🤔

I just wish it had at least one more voice. Main reason why I’m probably going to go with the Behringer Ub-Xa.

It’s funny, never see many people complain about the Prophet 5 not having enough voices. Can make most chords with 4 notes. Need more than 5? Just layer the recording, or tap the hold button, ways to get around it. Certainly not enough of a reason to sacrifice overall build quality and instrument longevity, while supporting a non ethical company, imo.

Well, the same old synth recipe... "Legends", Tom, Dave, Bob... All you guys made was "incredible" in the 80s, but there's nothing really new in 2024. I'm sorry but this synth sounds like old tech... Look what you can do with an Iridium, a Hydrasynth, a Modwave, a Kyra, a WoFi, a MiniFreak etc... Yeah there's analog in the TEO-5... Good for you but after layering, mixing, mastering, you don't really care... especially if it ends up as an MP3 played on a cell phone... The only good point I find about these "big name" synths is, sell them to snobs and collectors, and buy ( A LOT OF ) new gear with the cash...

It is a matter of tastes I would say. Some people search for the old analog sound. Personally, I want this sound for my music, new music in 2024, I still think instruments could be ageless, depends on the creativity of the artist and personal preferences. On the other hand, I disagree that real analog is not noticeable. I just recorded a track with a digital synth, sounded great, but then I tried by changing one line by analog, and it did sounded deeper and better. I added more arrangements and the result was better in my mix according to what the track needed. It may depend on the sonority you want and what you search as an artist.
@mikel51632 ай бұрын
All of those "new" synths you listed sound rather harsh to my ears. Good for particular genres but they might as well be a VST in a box (in fact, that's exactly what a few are).
@Iceleben2 ай бұрын
Then you could also say - Look what you can do with all the Amazing Plugins like Pigment, Omnisphere, Serum etc. I think it’s great that companies like Oberheim release new Analogs which go especially beyond the Mod Possibilities that where available in their vintage Synths. All are tools which you should use to make Music - whatever suits best for you - use it. I think we live in amazing Synth times. I also love and own e.g. the Hydrasynth but also preordered this one as I think it has a great Sound ( from what I’ve heard so far )

Three and a half octaves? Boring. "Cool" to babies who never had to deal with the "cool" of lame technology in the '80s. Remember the HISS of tape? Of course you don't. So many OPTIONS, no reason for them to exist. Oh, look! Knobs to turn. Isn't that AWESOME?!?!?!?! This is all digital, none of it having anything to do with the BLAT of a real sound wave. If you don't feel it in your BONES, it's just 44,000 stair steps a second, with no hiss. THAT'S the devil's deal, baby!!!
