I'm a huge fan of the Volca stuff: little boxes with a good - sometimes great - sound and a big "ease of use & fun" factor. Roland seems to take this approach into the modern age ... This sampler has a lot of power under the hood ... love it! Thanks a lot for this great demo

HOT TIP: If you own a MPC Live 2 on a stand and own a Decksaver for it, this (and All Aira compacts) fit in that indentation on the Decksaver perfectly. Got my P6 today. Feels great

It has a shit ton of smart features (step sampling is one of my favs), but man it freaking has POLYPHONY! I don't get it why all the companies miss that. I mean... sampling a note and playing chords is super duper fun! Also... sampling a fixed amount of measures by tempo is also dope. I can hardly wait to jam with my Guitar & Bass Edit: Wow, the beat at 17:52 is really dope

Great little machine. I'm just not convinced with the lower sample rate possibility. The Lo-fi samples sound filtered, like with an anti-aliasing filter. I wish they sounded like on the good old samplers, with metallic top ends.

It's of course insanely cool that Roland decided to add a creative sampler to their already cool setup. But why were you greedy with the sampling memory in 2024? 6 seconds of 44100 kHz mono in 2024. Are you serious, guys??? Greetings from Estonia 🇪🇪Tallinn. ❤️

Not the only ones stingy with the memory, Nvidia likes to put 8GB vRAM card out in 2024 when most games need 12gb or more then charge out the ass for it, new phones don't have SD card slots much anymore too, its a trend I'm seeing in digital tech.

Hi KZbin community, I have a question for you. I am a ‘non-musical’ person, but I have a 16yo son who is musical. He plays Tenor & French horns in multiple bands & Orchestra’s (up to grade 7 so far). He has no prior experience with electronic music. These Aira Compact family of units look very capable, fun, and don’t break the bank, and I think might be of interest to my son. If you were to buy just one of these units as an introduction to electronic music creation (just to see if he takes to it or not), which of these units (P6, T8, S1, J6, E4) would you consider the best starter? Or, would you recommend something totally different (but in the same sort of price range)?
@OlegAryutkin
@OlegAryutkin 2 ай бұрын
These are toys for people who already got a lot of gear. Get a digital audio workstation software (“DAW”), and maybe a simple controller keyboard. If he’s got a PC, get a USB audio interface, something inexpensive, like $100. If he’s got a Mac, no need for an interface. A simple software on computer is 10000x more powerful than this cute toy. Ableton seems to be the gold standard for electronic music You can get bundles with audio interface and ableton and some keyboard controllers online
@TheLDunn1
@TheLDunn1 2 ай бұрын
@@OlegAryutkin many thanks for your response. You have answered the question that I was wondering - about using a PC + software to achieve a similar goal. Thank you. These Aira compact units do look like ‘fun’ though, even to a non-musical person. I did have a very subtle conversation with my son, and showed him part of this video. I’m surprised, but he said that he wasn’t that interested in creating his own music, he likes being given the sheet music and following those ‘instructions’ to play an ‘analogue’ instrument. I was really surprised at this response, as he spends a lot of time on computers, so figured creating music digitally would appeal, but evidently not. So, I probably won’t be buying an Aria Compact unit now.
@OlegAryutkin
@OlegAryutkin 2 ай бұрын
@@TheLDunn1 he might come to this naturally. or not. Millions of musicians (professionals and hobbyists) are not interested in creating music on computer, or writing music at all. Many just want to experience connection with their instrument and no other "distractions". Usually these are the ones who play the best :)
@TheLDunn1
@TheLDunn1 2 ай бұрын
@@OlegAryutkin thank you. Yes, this seems to describe my son well, just enjoys playing his instruments in bands. As a non-musical person, I’ve struggled to understand this, I’m an engineer by profession, and a keen photographer, I enjoy the creativity side of things, as maybe incorrectly, assumed my son would like the musical creative side. I don’t think my son will ever be ‘one of the better players’ though, he doesn’t practice enough, just seems to really like playing in his various groups.

The J6 Chord synth would probably be the easiest for your kid to play with, but the S1 tweak synth might be a little more fun to experiment with shaping synth sound waves. The J8 is a drum machine with a bass synth wich would be good making music with more rhythmic structure. The P6 Sampler might be the most complicated of all but there is limitless possibilities because you can make music out of anything. Any sound can be used as an instrument. Good for using your imagination creatively.The E4 voice tweak is more like a toy. Fun but it seems more like a toy for people that can't really sing. Though it might be useful as an effects unit for running other music instruments through to come up with interesting or unusual sounds. Even though others have recommended getting your kid a computer music setup I think if I was a kid and was given the choice I think the Roland Aira Compact series instruments would look like a lot more fun to get my hands on and immediately play with instead of a boring much more complicated looking computer. Kids just want to have fun. Computers are enjoyable to use when you're older and more mature. Just my opinion. It's your choice to do what you think is best for him. I think it's great that you want to get him into making music at young age. Good luck.

Amazing how they actually sell their lack of memory and therefore turning down the resolution with the beauty of "low fi". That is "Its not a bug, its a feature" 2.0 I said it before amd I say it again "LOW FI" is just a made up fancy word for people working with crap or not knowing what a DI Box does. Period.

I used to be a product demonstrator for Roland UK, and was given the first JP-8000 in the country to play with. Soon after this they introduced Groove Products, MC-303 and so on. They sucked from that point on, I begged them to introduce something like a reissue of their classics (not those Boutique toys) but they weren't interested. Their strap line used to read 'We Design The Future', now it should read 'We Make Crappy Little Toys'. It's such a shame that the same company who brought us classics that shaped so much electronic music over the decades now seem to have run out of ideas and continue to recycle the same junk every few years.

@@paulc7798 Sadly Roland are not the only ones recycling to milk dry their customers. Each time a 'new' synth is produced I think it's nothing new; actually worse in many cases. They all sound the same to me, but more clinical, almost VST like, and not nearly as warm as the originals. Another problem is investing any finance into gear when music pays nothing unless huge tours and merchandise; Spotify and similar companies are a joke where 'payment' is concerned. The internet has destroyed the music 'business'.
