Great, entertaining video that probably was the most intelligent (yes that’s right) review of this that I’ve seen. Nice to hear someone demo this with real world perspective and a sense of humor. It is just a live performance tool, certainly nothing to use for an entire night in “keytar “ mode, but good for stepping out and hot dogging on a few tunes. Sound engine is usable as a secondary keyboard, could use it with wireless midi like a Panda unit, would probably just edit factory patches for my own sounds with the typical horrible Roland editing software. I agree should have a stand for 2 hand parts. Love the T-Rex comparison! Is the keybed decent? Similar to a Jupiter 80 or 50?

Once I disabled the IFX and built-in delay using the app I plugged mine into the Boss Me-80 and I'm getting some incredibly nice sounds out of it. 90% of the time I play it I have one hand on the headpiece to bend and mod as needed but the 10% of the time when I play with two hands on the keys I'll have it on a stand, even I don't like to turn into a trex on stage. let me put in simply...you have to put work into it for it to sound like how you want it to sound.

You know, all I want from a keytar is midi out, pitch and modulation controls, maybe a few assignable knobs, and MINI KEYS. It's so weird nobody's trying to fill the Yamaha SHS10/KX5 sized gap in the market. Who needs a giant keytar? There should be a tiny cheap one. It doesn't even need onboard sounds, certainly nothing fancy.

@Swenglish
@Swenglish Жыл бұрын
@@MrsDuck I'd want the pitch bend and modulation controls on the neck, to be gripped from underneath (and preferably the octave buttons as well). Most non-keytar keyboards would require major custom modifications for that, including the Nektar ones. Yamaha did come out with the SHS-500 (and SHS-300), but I've heard bad things about it, and they're overpriced for what they are...and the design is definitely a downgrade from the old SHS-10 (of which I've managed to procure one) and SHS-200 models.

Hey Everyone loves a good laugh and I agree that this instrument is too heavy, but you do a disservice to musicians who are involved in activities other than basic rock. Yes this could be better in the typical keyboard format, but notice that many musicians play this with both hands, can use pre-recorded performances on a flash drive, and can alter various tone/program parameters using the editor on cellphones. For musicians who compose scores for movies or videos the Roland sounds are great. Agreed that the sales pitch has set back the product 20 years, but for someone who values portability, this is a good product. In the end serious studio musicians will want a different Roland keyboard layout.

It needs to be more than just a keytar, it needs to be a powerful workhouse/Infinite complexity. An instrument that actually MAKES sense to play... but on a deep level... like the rest of instruments that exist in the world today... ingrained into fabric of the universe, a Fact. how does it go far and beyond just a keytar other than impressing the audience... where's the deep seated genius... who can play multiple keytars at once or do things with it no-one has tried before etc.. complex physics where every time you try something new something else happens, not just pre-set sounds... but Sound Engine that goes into the unknown... into the abyss/pit of doom... or rather than looking at keytar, how does it unlock the PLAYER, NVM the keytar... how does it fully emphasize the sounds the player themselves want... like in the game 'Elite Dangerous' how you can keep exploring to the point where even the developers of the game haven't explored everywhere in the map, nor anyone... how does it take the player and audience into the beyond, the multi-verse like they are being strapped in to the unknown... with strap belts ready to launch... and proceed in their hunky spaceship... its less your buying an instrument and more your buying a personality of yourself in that gadget/device/instruments.. how does it unlock YOU in unprecedented levels, unexplored levels.. its not you whos playing the instrument its the instrument whos playing you (your personality through music)... WE are the instrument.. perhaps a sound instrument that can based on brainwave signals interpret those emotions/feelings/sounds/soundwaves and turn it into reality... and with super precision/accuracy... then add reverb to that theme...

we don't care about how it looks, we care about how it PLAYSSS. although it is a stage instrument so I get that, but that should be an afterthought.. something which looks good but not overdone to the point where you could have spent more time on the instrument sound engine etc... give us some behemoth sounds that dwarf anything that come out of synth, like cyber voice etc.. Cyber sounds, deep space sounds, galactic sounds, out there sounds, sounds that's never been heard before... it needs to be moree than a keytar... but with extreme customizability/music techniques etc... something like a guitar that takes years to master but rewarding when you get it right.. like synth with resonance knobs and EQ and reverb and such...

@@ScoptOriginalkinda going back on what I said actually, load of fun.. but I think Keytars could be fused between professional keyboard with same form factor.. I think it should be fun and professional.. so like a hybrid mindset.. switching from one to the other.. sometimes you can be funny guy on keytar and other times you can play sweet sweet music on keytar.. but it should have that professionality first and then fun.. switching between both modes.. literally and psychologically.. I think it should be all professionality in a fun form factor.. like a mobius strip.. like making a triangle out of squares, or a square out of hexagons. Etc.. rather than being 70% fun and 30% professional, it should be like 100% professional and 100% fun both synergized together.. so it's 200% (out of a large picture, than smaller 100% one).. a 100/100 split thing.. that operates in two ways.. it could be you have two teams working on instrument.. one that's all about the music and customisability, the other focused on artistry and fun of playing instrument.. two worlds in two worlds.. hybrid world's.. to form ONE instrument..

Apart from the vocodeer, the sounds available struck me as being a lot like my Roland XV-3080, or JV-1010... both of which are pretty similar to the JD-800, apart from just being modules... all of which aren't much different to the Integra, really. "Repackaging the 80s", is pretty much what Roland do, it seems to me.

Seems like a sick piece of gear, the douchey stand-up routine got kinda old when I’m looking for a genuine review but different strokes I guess. T-Rex arms was pretty funny - not gonna be able to unsee that.

Good work the video. That little knobs in the arm look stupid and break the dynamics of performance

The slur on disabled people ‘...and you become a blue badge holder...’ is pretty offensive. Not the first time from this reviewer. He uses the word ‘spaz’ in another video. Is this a cultural thing at Anderson’s?

My bad, I try to introduce the guys behind the camera at the beginning but there's just not enough room in there to get camera shots of the chaps for when I talk to them. Thanks for giving it a go despite my John Travolta impressions! Peace x

@@jackduxbury1632 Just kidding mate. I enjoyed the vid. I remember the Keytar style hand controller add on for the Roland SH101 that came out when I worked at Carlsboro. I think we sold 2.

Yeah, I don’t think they are going to sell a ton of these! Just wait a year or two and they’ll be in the pawn shops for cheap! I love Roland but this one an ugly step child! Lol

Way too huge. A keytar is one of the few products that mini-keys actually make sense.

Agree. Some of us, unlike @Jack Duxbury, only need a “minitaur” to cover our bits. :)

I think the white model would be better for pale skinned players. With the contrast of your hands with the black colored keytar you look like you’re either trying to scratch your privates one handed or going for a good grope with two hands. Someone who plays this either should have some good dance moves, as you said, or some really good facial expressions. It would definitely be entertaining at a wedding reception.
