I agree with this immensely. Force and its mysticism are a part of Star Wars identity, yes, but what we see of them is just a very tiny window into the wider galaxy of people just living out their normal lives. There is so much potential to be had in stories that sees things through the eyes of those people. Andor finally scratched that itch. It might not *feel* like Star Wars, but that's all the more reason to praise it for being different...yet understand the setting wholly.

Kim, When Cassian said that he was in the fight since he was 6 years old, he didn't necessarily mean that he was in the Alliance that long. As you can see, he is an adult in 5 BBY, and was born before the Clone Wars (if I'm doing my calculations correctly). The Alliance wasn't fully formed in 5 BBY... BUT there were pockets of people doing what they could to hurt the Empire at every chance. The animated series Rebels details part of that "coming together" of people and organized cells of insurgents. 16:00 - No, it's not that he doesn't care, per say.... but as he said, they were likely (heh) looking for trouble and chose the wrong person or persons. Nearly 100 comments and no one explained this? I am surprised. Nerds love explaining this: BBY is not Baby, 5 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin) is saying this is 5 years before Star Wars, and since Rogue One directly proceeds Star Wars, Andor is essentially 5 years before what we saw in Rogue One. Movies or shows set after Star Wars are stamped with ABY = After the Battle of Yavin. Dating really never get more precise than that from a viewing perspective

Absolutely loving your reaction! I'm new to your channel but I'm obsessed with this show and watch every reaction I can find on it and yours is already one of my favorites!! I love that you pause and speak your thoughts whenever you have them in a very in-the-moment way, instead of waiting until the end of the episode or even the end of the scene to say something, as being able to watch how your thought process changes even throughout a scene is what really makes me feel like I'm watching it again for the first time. Also makes for some hilarious moments- you suggesting Cassian and Nurchi could be exes is absolute gold!! Also, I really appreciate you calling out Cassian's "let's not get emotional" line at 19:46 as being a pretty crappy way to speak to women, that really rubbed me the wrong way but I've never seen anyone else call it out before. I love how quickly you pick up on exactly what's happening in all the Kenari scenes despite the lack of subtitles- it took me several watches to get past not knowing what was being said and figure out all the stuff going on in there. I'm super excited about this reaction series, I really hope you decide to continue it, I'm very invested in hearing your thoughts on the rest of this series!!!

The in-world Preox Morlana's corporate security officers aren't technically workers, they're corporate enforcers who make sure the company owners/shareholders keep that surplus/profits flowing - as companies do; by enforcing corporate violence (sanctioned by the Empire) on probably the actual workers doing the labor. After all, the corporate security act as the de facto cops on the company's territory, with maybe the occasional weekly reports to the Empire (as stated by the Syrill's boss while he was leaving the room). Also, I think you missed the part where Syrill's boss understood that the two corporate security officers Cassian killed - were obviously racist with the "they clearly harassed a human with dark features" statement. So while Syrill was indeed "just doing his job" and was portrayed sympatheticly against his corrupt boss. Syrill himself is far from acting at some kind of ideologically-free position nor as the worker going against the corrupt system, as "doing his job" benefits both the company and by extension the Empire that is already corrupt to begin with.

Not really. What the supervisor intended was not to involve the ISB because that means they would consider the Security contractor incompetent and would take over the system's security themselves which means the contractors would be out of job, as you can see in ep. 4. Also, He did mention "benefits everyone here", so that means his intention was for the best of the company.

So I’m not sure if the other comments have explained but the benefit the Director was telling Syril was because the Empire doesn’t play nice. He’s explaining to Syril to keep things quiet so the Empire, which does nothing kindly, will stay out of their business which helps Syril because the corporation running Morlana One to make money is in the same situation as the people.. trying to exist in a galaxy where the empire makes up the rules. He tells him he’s going to that meeting and he will tell them everything is chill, so they stay away. Syril is an idealist though, and clearly struggles to understand this nuance. That director is just trying to keep the empire’s violent eyes away from their business. A reasonable want. Remember this is Star Wars not earth.. It’s not one for one relatable (company evil) and it benefits Syril because he is saying the empire involvement would likely end his job. I hope that helps.

Andor had been fighting "the Power" since he was six. From the point of view of the average working slob, there was little difference between the Republic, the Separatists, and the Empire. They were all oppressive. Some people say this show is slow, but it's more dialog-driven than Star Wars usually is. The dialog is some of the best writing seen on television. It's been mentioned, and I'll re-iterate: This series is told in multi-episode arcs like a series of movies. Episodes 1-3, 3-6 are arcs. Episode 7 is a standalone. Then 8-10 and 11-12.

So far I really like the breakdown you've done of the series on the pauses, although I do think it would be worth it to do those pauses between the scenes, or at the very least after a completed line of dialogue. Pausing in the middle of an exchange hinders the ability for a line or a series of lines to be grasped in its entirety. Like Syrill's superior here talking about how there are benefits to be had by dismissing the incident isn't just some higher up thing, but the fact that the superior ultimately doesn't want the Empire to stick its nose into the local business, which inevitably happened as you saw, which resulted in the Pre-Mor Authority being dissolved.

The first three episodes were released at once and IMO were actually a long premiere episode initally. Then they split it up for some reason. You did talk a bit much and nailed a lot of the stuff going on, but I don't think you have Deputy Inspector Karn right. He just sees an injustice that needs to be corrected. He doesn't see himself in the two guards that were kiled. He's just really trying to do his duty and the Chief Inspector wants to keep it quiet because the less the Empire comes around, the more the Prelox Morlana Security Corporation can profit. They have a cushy job, why risk it?
