Dedra is an amazing character. The most terrifying thing imaginable in fascism is competence. She's a massive threat to the rebellion. The leader or chair of ISB is right, she needs to watch her back, fascism detests competence.

The interrogation scene between Meero and Karn was interesting. She appeared to be trying to mentally beat him down, but Karn was relatively unaffected by it thanks to a lifetime of suffering similar abuse from his mother, only much more thoroughly. As far as this goes, Meero is still just holding his mother's beer.

Here’s to Xander 😁👍 Also you can just say it: Saw is nuts. He’s a loose cannon that Luthen tries to aim in the direction that works for the rebellion as a whole. And the dialogue between him and Luthen is probably some of the best in the show. Great performances by Forrest Whittaker and Stellan Skarsgard! I like the serious tone of the show. I also like The Bad Batch but the animated series always undercut themselves with stuff like goofball snoopy nosed battle droids that high five each other for a great tank shot or a tactical droid that actually uses binoculars. I really appreciate a show that forgoes all of that just for a change.😊

I think they've done a GREAT job with Saw's character throughout different shows/movies. He was always a radical but you see him get progressively worse. Culminating in... 'Bor gullet!' where he was so paranoid he couldn't even accept good news. So paranoid he suspected a girl he raised from a child might be there to kill him.

Andor is the best Star Wars content we’ve had since Return of the Jedi. Hot take, I know. Here’s the deal: Every character on both sides of the struggle are deep and relatable. The empire is formidable again! No more of the stupid decisions we’ve seen time and time again in shows like the Mandalorian and Kenobi. All of the performances are fantastic! Mon Mothma is deserving of several awards for what she is able to convey in this show. The dialogue is superb, especially when the conversations have multiple meanings. We as the audience know the real intent of the discussions, but it’s easy to see how someone listening in without the context would be fooled. No God-Mode Jedi characters to deus ex machina troubles away. And while we know what characters will walk away because of their appearance in later shows/movies, their character arcs still carry meaning, showing us how they develop from who they are when the show begins to who they become in later films. I absolutely adore this show and I hope you do, too.

Episode 7 is one of my favorite in the series. The Clem flashback scene is just so heartbreaking. Marva, Marva, Marva... that scene with her & Cassian was beautiful. The fact that Cassian helped inspire her to stand up to the empire is so poetic. Then we got mommy Mothma with Tay giving a performance of lifetime. Every time we see her she looks great. The wardrobe in this show is spectacular. Episode 8 (& 9) is where the audience stops rooting for Dedra. This show does such a good job of humanizing the empire. Look forward to seeing your reaction to episode 9 & 10. Thanks for the reaction

Yup, Vel was meeting Luthen’s assistant - and you’re not the only one who had a hard time recognizing her with her hair down. She almost looked more like Carrie Fisher. But it’s her. And yes, Luthen wants Cassian dead. Like he said, Cassian’s disposable, he can identify Luthen, unlike Vel (who Luthen would likely also kill in a heartbeat if necessary) he’s not a committed rebel, and he’s completed the heist. Literally no upsides to Luthen letting him live, only risks. Others have said it, but the show made the Empire is a proper antagonist again. TIE fighters aren’t quite just gnats to swat away, officers are competent and cruel even when they’re toadies, and, heck, Stormtroopers can aim! And then to make a labor camp/prison where the prisoners do most of the policing and prisoners are split up based on homeworld to keep them from ganging up… Arresting a Mexican for walking while Mexican. The PORD. And cubicle farms too! The Empire has everything. Other than that: Yes, Maarva, yes, Andy Serkis, and yes, Mon’s wardrobe. Her and Avasarala, man. That’s the crossover.

So happy you gave this a second chance when the time was right, and are as enthralled as I was. Incredible performances, all the characters with cast iron motivation, actors having a field day with dialogue and situations most actors would kill for, and sets, actual sets, a sense of scale and proportion, none of that shambling about in front of the volume. What sometimes gets forgotten in the (entirely appropriate) praise of the acting in ANDOR is the writing. Stephen Schiff was the lead writer of the standalone episode "Announcement", which is a fulcrum for the series narrative, and he did a terrific job. His pedigree includes being a writer and producer on the spy-fi series THE AMERICANS. And it shows. Wonderful stuff, especially all the scenes with two characters talking. Everyone catches up with someone else in rudimentary scenes that become delicious through dialogue. But this next arc, (episodes 8, 9, and 10) starting with "Narkina 5", had Beau Willimon as its lead writer and that was an amazing "get" for a Star Wars series on Disney+. Willimon is not only a playwright (a medium which is more reliant on words than filmed media) but was also the showrunner (and thus head writer) for the first four seasons of HOUSE OF CARDS. His aptitude for doublespeak and conversational subterfuge which can still be understood by the audience is on full display in these three episodes. Heck, there is so much character on display in subtext and action, as well. In rewatching the series, I've picked up on storybeats and character cues I missed the first time around - consciously anyway. (It sits on Osmosis Hill which safely overlooks the Uncanny Valley, but that's a longer discussion and something for another time.) It's so wonderful to see how characters were built in subtle and organic ways. We knew who they were without being "told" who they were. And their pivotal choices felt natural because of it, without losing any tension or tragedy. When they instruct writers to "show, don't tell", _this_ is what they mean. The writing in this series is a league ahead of every other Star Wars series OR MOVIE. It's not for everyone, I'll grant, _because_ it's so serious, dense, and layered. Not everyone likes their Star Wars like this. ...but it sure as Sith is perfect for me.

This show explains the concept of the banality of evil. Evil always doesn't have to just people doing obviously evil actions, it could be people just trying to do their job but fail to question their actions and how it affect others. In this show it shows right and wrong isn't clear, even people like Luthen is ok with putting people into sufferring in the name of rebeling against the system. So while you say Syril Karn is just doing his job, while true doesn't mean his actions would not cause harm to others. During WWII in germany there were lots of people who were also just doing their job, but their actions cause the death of many.

The acting in every episode is amazing. You should remember Andor's fellow prisoner Melshi. He was one of Andor's team on Scarrif in Rogue One. Saw is a character we've seen evolve through the animations to his end in Rogue One, and this is an interesting part of that evolution. We've seen Mon Mothma recurring numerous times in later-time Star Wars stories...with no sign of her family. And this point, Andor actually seems to be the least important character of his own series. All the other characters are a lot more interesting. By the end, though, you realize that's planned.

At this point, Luthen knows that Cassian is primarily a mercenary, self-interested and not a committed believer in the Rebellion. So he is a long-term liability. The position Luthen has to take is that unless he believes someone is a true believer in the battle (and its inherent sacrifices), they constitute a security risk. So Saw, for all his mono-focussed fanaticism, is trustworthy because of that commitment. In contrast, Cassian is clearly not (yet) fully committed to the Empire's downfall (compared to Marva, as seen in her short and crucial speech).

My mother likes watching Star Wars shows. She started watching "Andor" but didn't finish beyond the first episode and lost motivation. I understand that but the most intriguing stuff really starts with the fourth episode, particularly with Mon Mothma.

The juxtaposition of the beautiful Coruscant villa and the politicians enjoying fine food and drink while feeling "safe" because of PORD while the prisoners on Narkina 5 worry about beling electrecuted every day while getting worked down to the bone and having only slop without flavor to eat... because of PORD. Is Wonderful story telling juxtaposition.

Play close attention to the acting in this series. It is phenomenal. And I'm telling you now it gets even better. No spoilers, but there a character that makes a speech in a later episode that will give you goosebumps. SO good.

1. the empire is scary again for the first time since empire and some of jedi. 2. the show looks amazing and looks like the world of star wars. it fits with the originals and rogue one. 3. Andor is a reluctant hero who does the right thing which ends up with him killing a lot of bad guys on screen. Maybe some of them didn't deserve it but most of those are self defense. 4. Mon Mothma's wardrobe is too amazing. her hair and wardrobe should be award slam dunks. 5. Tony Gilroy is the only one I trust with star wars.

One thing I love about this series is for the first time in Star wars it shows the real danger of fascism. It isn't evil wizards or blowing up planets. It's a system that grinds and oppresses *everybody*, those who oppose it, those just keeping their heads down, and the people working in the system. Cassian refuses to join the rebellion and gets arrested just for walking on a beach. Cyril supports the system and runs afoul of politics so gets sent to bureaucratic hell. Everyone working in the system is terrified of messing up, standing out and losing their position. It doesn't matter who you are, fascism treats all people as disposable. And I think Andor is the first time Star Wars has tackled that head on.

I love Rogue One but I had no idea Melshi was part of that crew until another channel I watch reacted to this episode and pointed it out. I didn’t recognize him or his name.

The acting, on this show, raises the bar so much for other shows. The heist is the weakest part of this season and it wasn’t even that bad. But everyone’s performance, especially the “extras”. The ones that get front and center screen time for a few seconds, they’re giving it their all. I love this show.

Watching the reactors and other channels covering this, I actually find the heist my favorite arc, aside from the Ferrix uprising. I like the location and characters and how they're doing drills and then the heist itself. It felt very well paced to me. I know the prison arc is many favorites, but the tedium of the work and set (just like a prison), gets to me, and that is great too, but not something I really enjoyed.

I've. Learn't. From. Palpatine. 🤯 Anyone not upset by the loss of Nemik, is an Imperial spy. Narkina 5: The sheer, brutal efficiency of The Empire is fully revealed. Fear, of death at any moment. Hope, from days left. Drive, to earn yourself a reward. All while completely separated from other wings. I'd 👏🏼 if I wasn't so 😱 by it.

Cassian going to jail, in my opinion, was the way of force. To hide Cassian from the Empire. The one place they would not think to look.

Andor is example of the rich potential stories that George Lucas created from the beginning. The New Hope was a fun adventure but it had some dark moments like life. Love your honest and knowledgeable reactions Lil Gal.

Just think, if their systems were more connected, they would know that they have Andor in custody already. It's the same problem in our own government, the left hand doesn't know what the hell the right hand is holding.

"I don't even know what they are making. This could all be for nonsense for all I know." The Empire is an organization ruled by cold logical and hard discipline. They don't assign tasks without a definitive goal. Nonsense is not something Imperials tolerate very well... "Wow. The empathy." Prison is not a place that fosters or engenders empathy among its inhabitants. In fact, lack of empathy is a large part of why most of the prisoners end up there...
