For anyone doubting that Fiona Shaw truly did say "F*ck the Empire," it was later confirmed in an interview that came out today: uproxx.com/tv/andor-star-wars-f-bomb/

As Marva describes the empire as "a disease" Luthen's mouth twitches, almost imperceptibly, in a smile, he knows it's starting, at last, and he's gotten to see the Rebellion grow not just from his effort, but spontaneously from others'. It's validation for him and his sacrifice.

How have so many content creators missed that Cassian paid Nurchi thru Bix (Episode 7). He paid all of his debts before he left Ferrix. Nurchi was a character like Skeen, he was out for himself.

There is a strong theme of how crucial communicating with eachother throughout the whole season: the secret phone on ferrix, the secret phone in the shop, secret elevator Bluetooth phone with Luthern, the prisoners warning about level 2, the manifesto given to Cass, and more probably. Empire controls communication and info just like tyranny does. Feels familiar.

I want to also point out that there were SIGNIFICANTLY many more pairs of gloves missing from the workers' wall when we pan past it in the finale. I think there were only one or two missing pairs in episode one. I took that to mean that the Empire's presence was literally killing people, which helped to make it very believable that the entire town would revolt. They were losing people to the Empire, and they couldn't let it stand. Fantastic environmental storytelling. The kid who threw the IED was a more intimate/obvious/violent demonstration of that sentiment.

Not necessarily, it could just be that they're at work. Of course, perhaps that's because the Empire is extending shift length...

It reminds me of a course I took where someone was told to try to lift a kleenex box. Once they did it, they said 'No, I said to try to lift the kleenex box.' The point is the absurdity of creating barriers in language between ourselves and the results we seek.

All of the world building of Ferrix plays into Marva's speech. From the opening when we see the workers gloves. The red dirt. The bricks. Finding out those who have passed are made into the bricks. The planet seems to be made up of scrappers like Marva. They use the scraps to tie up the Corpo drop ship during the first action packed fight. The uniforms and guild crests the workers where. The somewhat old-timey looking Union worker dress uniforms. They all play into the working class theme of the town and planet. Marva talks about the Empire as rust. Something scrappers are constantly fighting against. Clem was showing Cassian how to remove rust from scrapped parts.
@studioseppuku9454

You could tell that Luthen was clearly inspired by Marva's speech and might have thought he was listening to a kindred spirit. I think this definitely plays into his decision of accepting Cassian at the end, he has just listened to this guy's mother speak so passionately and knows they were close, he is certainly worth a shot as a potential asset to the cause.

I'm way late for this observation, but is the name Kanari (a condemned mining planet) referring to "a canary in a coal mine"? There are too many parallels with an actual canary in a coal mine where the former's "death" is symptomatic of a much larger problem with the latter.

I think you're on to something with that. Ferrix is a play on ferrous or ferric, meaning something that's made from or contains iron. The people are all steelworkers and metal scrappers. No wonder rust is a powerful symbol of decay to them.

I am German and i watched Andor in English. I would suggest any other fellows of my country to do so too. Synchronisation takes a lot away of the force of words, specially on Marva's speech. It's really undermined that translation can take away key moments in film and series and this was one part for me listening to the german translation on s01e01 and stop doing so immediatly.

I always took Yoda's "Do or do not, there is no try" as an affirmation for working toward your goals w/deliberate action, focus, & w/o concern over failure. That focus then helps propagate a self-fulfilling prophecy; the more focused & sure of themselves a person is, the higher their confidence & fortitude will be, the higher the likelihood they'll succeed at achieving their goal.
@ryanwall5760

@@ryanwall5760 Indeed. Yoda's words were never mysterious or confusing from the moment they were written. Only someone very dense or intentionally obtuse would say otherwise. Mentioned this on another channel but worth mentioning here.... I did find something in Rogue one again. When Jedda is hit Darth Vader tells Krennic "there is no deathstar, it was a mining accident" that was the same thing that happened on the Kanari homeworld "an imperial mining accident" wouldn't that be a double whammy if cassians true parents were also affected by the death star in someway, timeslines arn't quite right, but they may have been testing early weapons. Maybe his parents were mining for materials to make the structure !

As a former teacher, people misunderstand Yoda’s “there is no try” lesson for Luke. As a teacher he knew what Luke was capable of better than Luke did. He knew Luke could lift the X-Wing. He didn’t have to try, he just had to do it. The Manifesto pointed out the attempt alone (rob the Empire, illegally perform a funeral, rescue a prisoner) was the important act of rebellion and just by trying do those things was enough to inspire others and let the tyrants know they aren’t really in complete control. The attempt alone was victory even if the funeral is stopped, or the prisoner can’t be saved in time.

Andor was what I always wanted from the Star Wars universe, the thing that always seperated Wars from Trek, real people going about their life. Not a shiny, idealized future, but one veiled by shadows of morality. Spice dealers, smugglers, mercenaries, outlaws, farmers, mechanics, gamblers, and fishermen, not necessarily propelled (at first) by grandiose notions but rather by need.

Easily the best review of the finale i've seen 👏 bravo! There are lots of solid SW content creators but your reviews are especially good with musical scores, mood, and hidden details.

Whoever writes the copy sure dives pretty deep, also some BIG stretches there for some of the comparisons but I say well done.

The ship they escape in has the engines of the y wing. I noticed that but didn't see the rest. Thanks for pointing that out.

You missed the tiny Cantwell-class cruiser near the Death Star in that final shot! They nailed the scale there!

I wonder if "Fight the Empire!" was a reference to Gwen DiMarco's reaction to "The Chompers" in Galaxy Quest...

i saw those droids welding, and it made me think about the hypothetical welding process you would use in the vacuum of space, i was thinking you would not need shielding gas, because there is no oxygen to contaminate the weld, then i realized that without any gas or air or anything, you couldn't strike an arc since the arc needs to travel through something so shielding gas is probably the easiest way to do that 🤷

Nemik struck me as more of a classical Anarcho Socialist. Before all of the Communist influences got in there. A lot of what he said rings with the more classical liberal social theories of the enlightenment era and American Revolution. This kid was the galaxy’s Thomas Paine. And as an anarchist myself, I connected a lot with what he said.

If you are for once able to separate yourself from all the Jedi, Lightsaber, Grogu, SW trilogy whatever and all that feel good Disney shit....this series is really really really good. The story is so strong, exploring how ordinary society struggle within theirselves in totalitarian world. I'm gonna bet the rating is not so good, because people just want lightsaber. Also the costume departement. Wow. I hope they get something for their work. The Corusant wardobes and whatever Mon Mothma was wearing. Just wow. Imho
