FYI- Hoagy Carmichael wrote the song in 1930 on the suggestion from a friend. After hearing Carmichael play the song, his buddy, Stuart Gorrell, wrote lyrics for it and Hoagy recorded it in September, 1930. It was the only lyric Gorrell ever wrote. Charles recorded his version in 1960 and it became synonymous with his career.

“Georgia on My Mind” was written in 1930 by Carmichael with his roommate, lyricist Stuart Gorrell. Thirty years later, Ray Charles had a Number One pop hit with it, and remains the artist most closely associated with the wistful tune. 0:52 [Rolling Stone]

Georgia has made much progress over the past decade. As a result of sound economic management, GNI per capita converged toward European Union (EU) levels, increasing from $3,048 in 2010 to $4,608 in 2021 (constant 2015 US$). The poverty rate (measured by the national poverty line) was more than halved over the same period. [World Bank]

In 1930, Carmichael wrote the music and Stuart Gorrell the lyrics to a song some think is about Carmichael's sister Georgia-the lyrics are ambiguous enough to be about a woman or a place-but Hoagy later confirmed it was about our state. [Today in Georgia History]

Great Great Great song & performance....."Oh God's arms reach out to me, Oh God's eyes see tenderly thru me, Oh God's peace is what I need..." I often substitute these words in this song, but I feel that this is what Ray Charles is really singing and he is singing it because he knows and doesn't need eyes to see God's "Tenderly" Absolutely a great great song. Thank You Ray Charles! May God reach out to me...

It was 1962...I was 9 hears old...I heard I can't stop loving you for the first time in a suburb of São Paulo Brazil, I would hear it many times more in the next months...it was like musi from heaven. Thank you my neighbors, they were all grown ups, they loved that song, I didn't know any English but my soul loved that song. I heard again today, from You Tube over Bluetooth on my car's stereo. I live in Georgia now and I saw Ray Charles live at the Olympic Park in Atlanta. In 1962 I didn't know his name, I didn't understand the words but that music, that voice, that feeling was recorded in my soul. Humans, such potential, music, such a gift. Maybe there is hope for humanity. We are capable of such beauty but plagued buy lowly sentiments. Thank you Ray Charles for enriching my life. You are forever a part of me.

The first time I learned the story of how this became the Official song of Georgia I teared up. It is known that Ray Charles was addicted to drugs and was busted for it and his license to perform in Georgia was revoked after he was arrested. Years later the State forgave Ray and allowed him to play this song in the State House and it was unanimously voted to become the State song. All I can say is what a wonderful example of redemption, forgiveness and victory for this great artist.

Mr. Ray Charles may have been blind. But He could clearly see what was going on when He set down in front of a piano! He could visualize where every key was and never miss a won of them every time and right on time. And He shared with the world His God given talent and amazing vocals. Absolutely amazing performance. Loved every minute of it!

How’re you feeling now with gas prices, and the world worse in every way? I hate to tarnish Ray’s wonderful music with bullshit politics, but you started it, and clearly you voted for all the horrible shit going on in this country now days. Regretting it at all? Or would you rather see the country burn rather than admit that a man you didn’t like did a better job as president?

@@shotty2164 How could a nation so proud of its servicemen elect a blatant draft dodger to become Commander in Chief? Not only that, but you voted for the PoS who disrespected John McCain, and every other PoW who served the country. A red line you and so many other 'patriots' were so happy to ignore. Also, conflating the last election with gas prices and the implication that Trump would have done anything different to avert the Ukraine invasion, that takes some fucked up mental gymnastics. Good luck your mental health issues.

After a frustrated performance due to poor room acoustics in Auckland, New Zealand, circa 1974, Ray promised to come back and make amends. True to his word, a couple of years later he returned, playing a small, intimate cabaret, and OMG, I'm tearing up a little just remembering it. By far and away, the greatest concert I have ever witnessed, anywhere, any time. A true legend, Ray Charles. Al Peach

He was an innovator when it comes to music. He didn't stretch limits but rather created new ones. None of us to may live to see the talent level of this man ever again. He truly transcended his profession and touched all people not just a specific demographic like many bands today. I do not know of any performer that has done that before or since.

I can't believe how passionate this performance is. To still feel the music as much as he did even after having performed this song to death is truly unbelievable.

man, Ray was one bad mother fucker..... Rest In Peace fellow musician. It's one thing to follow your passion but completely something else when you've lost the light in your eyes but not the spark in your dreams.

As far as everyone's opinion on this Metalhead issue, music is music, man. I used to be a huge metal head, i then had the opportunity to play with Brubeck when i was younger (im a sax player), and my perspective changed. Im older now, and have a respect for all music. I love it all, it's not entirely about skill, how fast you can play and how much you know, its about what you feel when you play. I'd rather listen to someone playing the same note with love then someone playing runs with technique
