It was always a pleasure to watch, when these two guys played against each other´s. Sampras was good as always, but Agassi was even better. Thanks You-tube, it is really nice to watch these old classical matches.

Me too. He had an amazing backhand cross court. Just used to smash it.

This was probably Agassi's best surface suited for his game (which explains why he won 4 out of his 8 slams there). The apt complex I used to live at years ago had one court that was a bit on the rubbery side. I'm assuming it was probably close to rebound ace if not rebound ace. The ball bounced differently. Seemed to me that one court made the ball more predictable or always put the ball in the perfect striking zone. Also with the court being rubbery, it didn't seem to take toll on your legs and knees. The drawback was there were some dead spots on the court-----probably due to sun/weather damage. Also transitioning back to a regular hard court was always a nightmare. Timing was thrown off pretty bad.

@@paulc7804 Crazy he only started going there that very year. If he started earlier he might have had a few more slams there!

@@Romans8-9 If he had the focus and determination early in his career like he did in the second half of his career, he probably would have given Sampras' 14 GS record a run for its money. On the flip side, maybe he wasn't as burnt out like his peers during the latter part b/c of the paths his career took. His marriage to Steffi was also a huge boost.

The court back then so much faster, smacking banging... Point were short, depending who's better on the day

Agassi, absolutely fierce in this. Some years ago, I always thought Agassi was far inferior to Sampras. But after watching more videos of Agassi vs many other players, regardless of who has winning record, Agassi is right up there. Dare I say, Agassi's playing style is more modern, more adaptable to today's tennis.

Only Agassi win against Sampras in Grand Slam final (Sampras beat him in wIMBLEDOON final 99 and 3 Us Open final-90,95,2002)...

But only agassi managed 14 wins against pete total...too bad its outweighed by 20 losses Regardless he is the one of the two to have the career golden slam.

To be fair, he beat Sampras at AO 2000, in the SF, that was more of a final than the actual final.

Such night and day comparing this match with us open in 1995. You can tell sampras coundnt get the speed on his serves on rebound ace. Without the serve sampras is one dimensional. Thats why he struggled at french open. If agassi hadnt skipped so many australian opens, I dont think sampras would have won a single australian open.

Sampras was 6-0 against Agassi at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open but 0-3 against Agassi at Australian Open and French Open. Should Sampras get praised for being 6-3 in Grand Slam matches against his rival or criticized for not being better at the Australian Open and French Open to play Agassi?

Marat Safin defeated Agassi in a classic 5-set semifinal one year at the Australian Open! So Agassi was definitely not unbeatable at that major - as great as he was there during his career!
