I agree if you have weak legs &/or overdo it. Moderation is the key, even if you are very strong. This is the key along with commonsense. After 31 years of karate, I have found that works well. I have a very serious old injury which I really have had to work around. In my late teens 20 years ago the hospital told me "you have to stop karate". Of course I'm still going... Moderation, listening to the body and commonsense are the keys! Things aren't so simple! Kindest regards, Andre

ANDRE BERTEL hello my name is Robert Liberty I've been in martial arts for 33 years I started with Kung Fu San Soo and then did Taekwondo and Jeet Kune Do then sprinkle of other martial arts like Aikido sunbow Judo which I got pretty far in a black belt and Muay Thai a couple of other things but I took Shotokan up until brown belt level and now I'm deciding to get back into it at age 37 I've been watching your videos since they were cutting videos the karate nerd videos and I'm so motivated to train there's anything that you can add to me I would love to communicate with you directly to to help me guide back into my training but can get your email address maybe there is a way that you can show me some things by email or send me some videos or show me what to practice to get back into everything as far as training there's some questions I have that I don't feel as just enough when it comes to ask if someone buy a KZbin if you can help me or guide me I would appreciate it even if it cost money I want to go back into dedicating my life and my mind heart soul spirit and body into karate only

@ryvoltz Teisho-zuki or shotei-ate depending on your kaiha or ryuha. This is an orthodox karate-waza. However, some Shotokan schools neglect such techniques in general training due to too much emphasis on competition techniques. We must practice tsukiwaza (punching techniques) with a variety of karada no buki (weapons of the body) such as teisho, ippon-kne, nakadaka ippon-ken, hiraken, shihon nukite, koko etc. All the best!

Actually, I fully agree. I'm 40 now, I was like that when I was 20, and today I pay the price for being foolish... from what I see in his videos, Andre is superb in what he's doing, but it is mandatory to think about safety as well.

Some tosspot marked Andre's comment as spam today . I repost it for him: "Next stop England, then back to New Zealand, after that South Africa and Japan... I am supposed to squeeze in India in December of this year, but that seems impossible. I'd love to go to Germany again due to my wonderful experiences thanks to Oliver and Yan, and all their karateka friends there. OSU!"

@andrebertel I've just watched the second video and you got me very, very curious about one thing. I am a purple belt in Shotokan Karate and I've never seen anybody using the palms to attack like you did - except when you thrust your palms towards the opponent's chest. What is this technique? And what is it based on? Thank your for the attention, already. Osu!

Of course I can also see that Bertel has good physical qualities. However, I cannot follow the enthusiasm of many people who think that they confuse this with actual effectiveness in a real fight. Would Bertel know how to do these things against a well trained fighter in Thaibox or MMA? Or can he only do them with pupils who (between fear and respect) do not really attack?
@williamwest7008
@williamwest7008 3 жыл бұрын
Nobody is going to attack an instructor demonstrating how to do techniques. Do you even know what a demonstration is? Would you go to an MMA gym or a BJJ class and attack the instructor demonstrating a takedown or armbar? No you wouldn't and yet you wouldn't doubt it's effectiveness. You only doubt the effectiveness here because it's traditional Karate and not Muay Thai, BJJ or MMA. lastly Karate against MMA would be unfair just as BJJ, or any other art would be. MMA is multiple arts, Karate is one.

Good question? Now, why don't YOU run up on Bertel Sensei and test his effectiveness personally? Let us minions know how that works out for you.

@@briankeiththomas15 No problem, I am a professional MMA fighter. Would you be ready to bet 10,000 Euros against me?

@@williamwest7008 The BJJ and also the MMA has already proven its effectiveness numerous times against all sorts of opponents and not only in training or in Seminars. Exactly contrary to this, Bertell in these seminars shows ONLY certain of his athletic qualities without ever having really fought. If you do not see the difference between these 2 things I recommend a good Ophthalmologist (I know very well what I am saying, since I am 6 Dan of Karate Shotokan and I am a direct student of Sensei H. Shirai, great legend of Traditional Karate. He is also an MMA Instructor and I know what I am saying here too).
