Absolutely and left out with a bang towards the end of his career; was cleaner and more polished with his fights at light heavyweight , wished he stayed a little longer but he left with his faculties. Great champion and commentator.

I couldnt stand him when he was a fighter to be honest, but nothing but respect for the fighter. Probably the most memorable moment of his career is when he got knocked down by Kovalev, got right back up, nodded to Kovalev and went right back to it. Kovalev had been drilling people for years up til that point. Not aesthetically pleasant to watch but a man built from granite.

Its about WHEN YOU RETIRE so the time was there and his name was on the ballot and for sure he deserved to be there. Just happened to be in this class but to say it was disrespectful is not right. I never said he is not deserving of being in the hall of Fame I said the timing is off. He is younger than the other legends. You can say what you want but my statement stands. Ward ducked Stevenson and ran to retirement. Didn't want none of that left hand. I thought it was the logical fight to make after he beat Kovalev. If he won, which in all likelihood he would have given how much on the defline Stevenson was, then he would have retired undisputed champion. He would have been cemented as an all time great. I thought Mayweather should have kept his WBO belt and fought Kell Brook instead of Berto. He too had a chance to retire undisputed but chose a soft touch for his last fight. Missed opportunities. These guys were great fighters but the decisions they made at the end were just plain wack. No desire to he immortalized. Its especially baffling for Ward. I thought he didn't regain his prime form until the second Kovalev fight, then he went and retired immediately after working so hard to regain that form. Imagine if Spence retired after beating Ugas. That's kinda like what Ward did. Respect to the new generation. Charlo, Usyk, Crawford, Haney, and even Canelo (even though he took advantage of the Benavidez weight situation and avoided any undisputed talk at 160lbs where there were actual threats). Anyway these guys went for undisputed and showed everyone that it isn't just the OGs that can get undisputed. Honorable mention to Errol Spence for chasing that greatness and being on the verge despite his serious health troubles and the toughness of the welterweight division. Respect.
