This is, hands down, the best number I have ever seen. I saw Pippin when it was in previews (so no one knew about this scene yet) and people were literally crouching off of their seats /standing/ nearly jumping up and down as she continued to do more daring stunts. I've never seen anything like it and I feel SO lucky I got to see her. Top 10 life moments.

Saw it on Broadway and it was one of those magical moments. I also got to sing in the choir they recorded for this song for the Cast Recording of the revival. She showed up a short while before we finished. That was a day I will never forget. If you listen to the recording, notice the harmony differences at the end. Stephen Schwartz was so happy with how things went that he say in front of us and re-arranged the end of the song for the recording. And our group picture is in the center of the CD booklet.

You can really see how the perception of being older has changed in 40 years. Back then, the expectations of an old grandmother were subverted by Berthe being sassy and witty. Now, Berthe's a cougar and doing death defying stunts like one of those cool grandmothers who live 'til 90 because they're doing aerobics and Zumba and stuff.
