I was a young dresser working on Phantom of the Opera when it opened in 1987, and I was just 17. Sarah Brightman used to give me a beautiful smile as she waited to go on stage at the start of the show. I've only just realised writing this that I was the last person she was with before starting her performance every night. And she always gave me a beautiful long smile. She never came over to me, and I never went over to her, and neither of us ever said a single word. She just smiled forever and then went on stage. I will never forget your smiles. Thank you, Sarah. Hearing this on the funeral of my dad was one of the hardest things I’ve been through. Hearing it now makes me smile with happiness with the times we had together but it’s tainted with sadness that he’s no longer here. Losing him on Father’s Day makes it that so much harder. 18/6/23.
