I’ve noticed that everyone wears shoes in the house and on the furniture. Is there a reason for that or is wearing shoes in the house something you’ve always done? Growing up, my parents didn’t allow any shoes except “house shoes” to be worn throughout the house. I don’t allow shoes to be worn in my house & I take my shoes off at friend’s houses. It is just because I’ve never worn shoes inside. It is so weird to see the kids and Tom in their shoes while indoors.

So I've been feeling very strongly about homeschooling my 3 year old however she is very delayed speaking.she was in speech but we moved to a new state and no longer qualified. Do you have any recommendations about homeschooling with speech delays or do you think shed benefit from speech in school?
@TheMillsFamilyVlog6 жыл бұрын
Many parents homeschool children that have special needs and it's becoming more and more common as resources become more available. Here's some information from HSLDA that gives some recommendations for books, videos and curriculum to help with speech: hslda.org/content/strugglinglearner/sn_help.asp Here are a couple of articles just for some encouragement: www.raisingarrows.net/2010/01/helping-the-speech-delayed-toddler-preschooler-at-home/ and www.familyeducation.com/school/homeschooling-special-needs-kids/homeschooling-child-speech-problems
@MDSMITH96 жыл бұрын
I’m sure you have but my son had significant speech delays at 3. Come to find out his hearing was very bad due to frequent ear infections. We got tubes and tonsils and adenoids out. Then Bam he started talking up a storm. I always suggest ruling out hearing issues if speech is a issue from my personal experience.
@allysonwonderland89236 жыл бұрын
Thank you!!! Will be checking those books out asap. & I have had her ears checked twice and she fine so far. Dr said it's not uncommon for bilingual kids to have a delay so that could be the cause. She has been saying a few more words lately so maybe by the time we start school I won't have to worry about it.

This may sound like a silly question. But do you save all the little notes your children make you? I save everything and haven’t found a good storage or filing system. I figured you would have a very good system! Please share!
@TheMillsFamilyVlog6 жыл бұрын
I don't save everything, but I do save a lot. I try to write on each thing who made it and when because I'll forget. Then I toss it in my Everything Else bin on my desk. When it's time to sort my bins, I put all of those little things in the file cabinet. Each of the kids has a file for the year and I have a family file just for things that will go in scrapbooks someday. I decide when I sort if I'll put something in the child's file or the family file. Right now, I put all of those files in a box in the attic at the end of the year so everything is sorted by year and person for the day when I finally get around to working on scrapbooks. I bought a big file cabinet that's up in the attic now, but I haven't moved into it yet. The contents of the boxes will be moved to the file cabinet so I can find what I'm looking for a lot easier. I was doing KonMAri decluttering quite some time ago, but the last step - sentimental items - has yet to be completed. I don't remember how much I showed, but I did a video awhile back on my file cabinets: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3yceZaKfqabpZI

The kids really help keep the house running on a daily basis as far as cleaning/chores. I try to come in and do each job once in awhile with the "mom touch" to get something done really well, but if it takes me awhile to get to something, the house doesn't fall apart thanks to the kids.

Regarding the younger children we've seen plenty of what they learn in kindergarden and first grade, but what are the paces like for the older children? It would be awesome if you could show some typical topics of higher grades. Are there any AP classes in ACE? How do you do the language learning, and which authors do you use to train translations? Only bible study or do you translate Homer or Plato as well?
@TheMillsFamilyVlog6 жыл бұрын
You can check out Timothy Anger's channel if you'd like to see some of the topics covered in the higher levels. He does tutorial videos for specific PACEs and you can get a feel for what's covered, at least in Math and English. kzbin.info Also, ACE's Scope & Sequence gives an overview of what's taught in each subject/grade: www.aceministries.com/media/pageimg/Home_Educators_Scope_and_Sequence-2017.pdf

Hey girlie..how are YOU feeling? Sometimes the baby gets all the focus (which isn't a bad thing)..just wanted to check in on my favorite internet friend! ❤

I feel really good! It's hard to think it's only been a little over two weeks since I had a baby. From the start, I didn't feel bad at all. I've had a few emotional moments, though. I ran out of newborn diapers today and moved Hannah to size 1. That made me cry. It just goes so fast... I think I feel it more keenly with each baby realizing that this could be the last time. That's hard for me.

Hi Andrea, I’m always curious about something... how do you manage with so many kids and just one bathroom in the house? Might be crazy when it’s shower time! 😱😂 do you have a schedule for that?
@TheMillsFamilyVlog6 жыл бұрын
We do have a schedule, but it helps that, with homeschooling, we rarely need to all get out the door at the same time so we can take our time getting everyone through the bathroom in the morning. We also tend to have multiple people getting ready at the same time using the three different mirrors. We have a white shower curtain so someone can be in the shower with privacy (and still let some light in) while other people are in the bathroom doing their thing. If someone needs to go potty, we either leave for a minute (if it's a big kid) or just turn away (if it's a little kid.) We've also put mirrors and hair combing supplies in bedrooms to give more options for places to get ready.
@tonihoward53536 жыл бұрын
Andrea Mills my family was the same about getting ready and doing things in the bathroom. We only had 2 children myself and my brother, but we had to get out the door by 7 in the morning as we lived in the country an hour away from school. I think a lot of people are to upright about getting dressed ECT together. I mean when at school in changing rooms for pe most kids get ready in the same room anyway. If you have a shower curtain nobody sees anything too.

Andrea I hope baby Hannah is letting you get some good sleep at night. My 6 week old granddaughter is not a good night time sleeper yet and my son and daughter-in-law are a bit sleep deprived.
@TheMillsFamilyVlog6 жыл бұрын
It can be _so_ rough! Thomas was my worst sleeper, but I think it was more from me than it was him. I've gotten better after so many babies. Miss Hannah started sleeping for a 6-hour nighttime stretch during her first week. During the second week we began working on better daytime naps and now I'm able to start getting more things done during the day because she's taking some solid 2-3 hour naps during the day, too. Life can feel so bleak when you're sleep deprived. I hope things improve at your son's house soon!
@robinsdog16 жыл бұрын
Andrea Mills Thank you for your kind reply. Oh wow six hour stretches of sleep. You are really fortunate. Always look forward to your videos. Have a wonderful evening.

robinsdog1 what a shame mine were all good sleepers and slept long stretches through nite,I did use pacifiers,maybe the baby has colic or hungry,I hope the baby settles better parents get some good sleep as baby needs her sleeps to,xxxx
@TheMillsFamilyVlog6 жыл бұрын
My problem was that I was too quick to respond to every little cry and squirm so Thomas didn't learn to settle himself. With Hannah, I've had to tell the bigger kids to let her be when I lay her down after she's been well nursed and changed. If she fusses a little, we just have to be patient. She usually settles herself within a few minutes. Of course, if she really starts to cry and get worked up, we pick her up, but within three days of this she was taking good long naps during the day. At night, we have our babies sleep in our bed for the first 6 weeks. It seems to quickly get them accustomed to adult sleep patterns. By her 3rd or 4th day, Hannah was sleeping for 5 hours and on her 5th day she slept for 7 hours! Our first 3 kids slept in their own cribs from the start and it took so much longer for them to sleep through the night. I felt like a zombie for about 3 years which is what prompted me to start Justus off in our bed when he was born. I was exhausted!
@elliegoldie59026 жыл бұрын
Andrea Mills yes that's right if you pick them up they know if they make little cry someone will pick them up,it's better to get routine from start and that's great baby Hannah sleeping so good,xxx🌸💐🌸
