Only a fellow pianist could understand how insanely good she is because she makes it look so easy. The first part of the song is not hard and virtually anyone who knows how to play piano could do it. By the end, my jaw was almost on the floor.

@Hey Girl I Like Your Kitchen Romania jazz can be both easy and hard aswell. same with classical music. But in many cases classical music is harder than jazz which also can make you look pretty good with an untrained ear/eye. A bunch of scales and licks. Good improvisation if that is what you are thinking of is very rare of course.

I'll say as well, she had obviously practiced the shit out of this song. She didn't just walk up to a piano and thought oh let me just whack out interstellar quickly. This might've taken her months and months of practice. Still absolute talent, but I think you weirded it wordly to act as if she hadn't prepared for this moment. I'm a pianist and if I stop and play a piano, people only see me playing the piece there and then, but they dont see the years of practice I've put behind it, but that doesn't make it easy for me, it means I've trained my ass off to be there.

Why is this making me want to cry right now? My dad taught me to play piano, but I'm very much an amateur. I was classically trained as a cellist - and I loved the cello - but my heart is with the piano. I got a used piano in my house last week, and even though I'm nowhere near classically trained, I love it. I love it so much. It calms me, it doesn't judge me, I can mess up and start again. It's only a public service and desirable when convenient. You'd be surprised how many children are pressured into taking "safe" subjects in school over art and music, and people don't realise the need for practice at louder volumes. Many are content to consume music, but don't give musicians any real credit or space to perfect their craft, nor do they get paid much (if at all).

It's not just a few notes or if you want to look at it, all music is just 12 notes. She hits different octaves, she goes down scales, the lower notes are the least chaotic part. So if you just hit the low notes, it's a few notes played over and over.

That literally looks so complex, the ways she's moving her fingers so flawlessly. Interstellar is one of the best music scores ever made imo and she just played this so beautifully. I have no words. I wonder how long it took to learn that. I love Hans Zimmer and his work so this was a real treat. Edit: If you don't know already, Hans Zimmer composed the soundtrack for The Prince of Egypt and partnered with John Powell (guy who wrote the incredible soundtrack for How To Train Your Dragon) on Kung Fu Panda's soudntrack.

that everyone except her friends just walked by and acted like nothing happen makes it more cinematic. As if she is playing this piece in her own universe.

As someone who plays piano and has had long natural nails, it is NOT easy playing piano with nails like those! Also, I love how, over the course of a few minutes, most of the strangers walking by notice her music. It’s beautiful to watch.

I noticed this too. I could be wrong, but I think she only has long nails on her left hand and is using the right hand for more complex things?
@dennisk.7149
@dennisk.7149 2 жыл бұрын
It is almost impossible to play perfectly with nails this long in terms of phrasing or dynamics in generell. In most piano pieces the pinky finger has to be the strongest cause the notes played by it have to be louder than the other ones. You can only develop full strength in your fingers if the fingers are upright and your fingertips touch the keys. The fingers shouldnt kink which is not the case as you can see on her left hand while she is playing. It was an amazing performance anyways!

Exactly! I used to have long nails for a time but had to give up after noticing that I play a lot worse with them.

Unless you play piano you have no idea how insanely difficult this is. It also happens to be one of the most beautiful pieces i've ever heard on a piano. So amazing.

I have been playing the piano for more than 10 years and I'm classically trained, this really isn't difficult in any way, shape or form. Any other pianist above amateur level will tell you the same tbh

@Camig1708
@Camig1708 2 жыл бұрын
@@swedishgirl2506 it is not? You can’t possibly think that if you’ve played for 20 years, come on. Pieces that are actually hard: Chopin’s Ballades, Liszt’s Transcendental Études, Rachmaninov’s Piano Concertos, Schubert’s sonatas. Pieces that “look cool” but are easy and even a first year pianist could handle: this. My 8 years old student is practicing it as we speak

@lucdanic5355 2 жыл бұрын
@@Camig1708 I agree there’s a ton of repetition, the parts where the notes are played quickly the notes are very close together and not a stretch, and the only change in those quick parts is the note the pinky is playing. I’m currently learning chopins revolutionary etude and to me it’s hard but I’ve heard from better pianists than me that it’s an easier etude.

This is by no means "insanely difficult". Not to take away from her performance, but no pianist (except beginners) would ever describe what she played as difficult

I've watched tons of piano covers of this piece but I always find myself coming back to this one. I even just checked out the remastered one and still I can't help but prefer this video. The setting, the background noise, the piano, the people coming and going with their own lives, the pianist who disconnects herself from the rest of the world for a moment, the piece of music itself, it's all just comes together perfectly and is very...human.
