This Might Be The Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Time...

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed sometime this fiscal year according to Nintendo themselves, when exactly is still very much up for debate. After the June 2024 Nintendo Direct with its major announcements for the Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, a lot of conversation has sparked about when we will finally see the Switch successor console. Here is my prediction based off what I have noticed.

The problem is that the hardware is almost certainly going to be shown with an impressive line-up of launch titles, and those games may outshine their 2024 holiday line-up. I don't think they'll want to show the launch titles until early next year, and I don't think they'll want to show the console without any games. So I'm expecting a showcase around February, and a launch a few months later. I'm not that worried about precedent, because they know they're in an unprecedented situation.

I think that veeery few people would say "oh, the new 3D Mario looks better than everything releasing this holiday, so I'm not gonna buy any game at all this holiday and wait until March". Most people would just be impressed and excited with the lineup for Switch 2, while still enjoying the games coming out this holiday.

But there has been at least one first party title, albeit a minor one, or piece of first party DLC released in August. They’ve typically been doing one release per month through the Switch generation almost since the beginning of the generation (once they started developing for solely for the Switch in, what, 2018). Before the merging of home and handheld divisions and even prior to Switch with 3DS still getting pretty big support, Nintendo would basically alternate between home and handheld releases each month with July and August usually being a fairly minor release months. Basically the only month they usually don’t have something released, though they were announcing something at The Game Awards, is December. And even in the instances that they released something in December, it was either DLC, the start of an event for a kind of live-service game, or it was something minor with the major holiday releases coming October and November with holiday bundles coming In those same months. This year is the first year in a while that there’s been absolutely nothing first party in the August release window.

We have real world examples of gamers ignoring current systems with better games coming up in favor of whatever is coming up next gen. We have seen the next systems dominating sales with mediocre titles in detriment of better ones in older consoles, even on Nintendo platforms. And like i told you in the previous video, yoh make an equivalency of Nintendo's position in the WiiU days to where they are standing in the Switch days. I think an August reveal is a sound theory, but I believe your angle is incorrect. Much more than software, marketing scheduling for hardware is dependent on production. If Nintendo has to start production this Fall, then an August reveal makes a lot of sense; the earlier reveal gets ahead of potential leaks and having a longer production timeline ensures more stock at the time of release. I would just be wary of putting too much stock in a release schedule gap. If the production schedule will be similar to the Switch, I would expect the reveal timing to be the same; therefore the schedule gap is just a schedule gap.

Now this is a good argument for the early unveil hypothesis. However, thats assuming Nintendo is taking the exact same approach to production. My instincts based on some of the rumors tell me they are not. It seems Nintendo have been securing parts in a more discrete manner for months now. Also this goes for other companies, for example, it is expected that ps5 pro will be released this year, yet we havent seen any production related leaks. Companies are tighting up lose ends better now.

My theory is that the games announced in the june direct were meant to be first year switch 2 games, but after the internal delay nintendo rushed to get the games with the least priority that were going the be cross platform anyways announced, and that doesn't include metroid prime 4 because it was already announced prior and they just wanted to give people a look at the switch version first so they can absolutely blow our minds with the switch 2 version in the second trailer once we get the switch 2 presentation

Plus the Legend of Zelda Echoes of wisdom game is getting a special edition switch lite console this September. I wouldn't be surprised Nintendo doing a special edition switch oled console bundles for the new Mario and Luigi brotherhoodship game and the new Mario party game 🎮. Yen will not rebound, any serious company can tell that. Saudi's stopped petrodollar, quantitative easing is on its way out. Nintendo expands to Brazil. The prices will go up and up, while Switch 1 remains well affordable, Nintendo can tank the low component avialiablity by making Switch 2 a premium device that's in low supply but not everyone needs to have one. My wager is that Switch Lite and OLED have similar Broadcomm custom wi-fi as Wii U gamepad and that's why their battery run time is iffy. They're ready to use a special low-latency miracast and partners are setting up to make their devices receive-ready, Apple M4 chip included which is its main functional difference to M3. It's not just "AI functions", it's also compatibility with that spiffy Nvidia DLSS. Apple and Nvidia best buds now, and Nintendo gettin pirated on App Store WITHOUT the US-made landmine of being forced into eminent domain for it. Win-win. As it stands, EU will have to make do without because EU legislation makes proprietary miracast illegal, including iPhone mirroring. Price drops in August. The Zelda game you’ll be able to get the switch lite edition with the game for 199. All the versions drop down 50$ and it’ll help push sales going into the holiday season. I think that’s good marketing. Along with a lot of children saw that direct. Prices dropping, parents saying ok. And everybody gets hype over the switch 2 after its reveal in August. I’m a nobody but I’ve been seeing it this way. In the process blowing pass the PS2 in sales to remind the world who Nintendo is. My personal feelings.

Maybe I'm crazy but i'm pretty sure Nintendo never confirmed they would reveal the console this fiscal year. There was only the confirmation that it existed and an announcement about it would happen. An announcement doesn't mean full reveal nor does it confirm launch in 2025. I have a feeling we will have an announcement sometime between august and march but the console won't come until the end of 2025 beginning of 2026. i could be wrong though. I'm very certain ppl are overestimating the next console and simultaneously underestimating the final part of the OG switch's life. We'll see, its all speculation. but i feel fairly certain we aren't getting anything Switch 2 related until December at the earliest, with my money being an announcement by Spring 2025.

Andres, ive heard you mention the Switch 2 - Series S comparison a few times so wanted to give you a heads up on something before any potential confusion: The Switch 2's GPU is expected to be kind of within poking distance of Series S GPU, but what people arent talking about is that the CPU is actually expected to be noticeably less capable. In fact the gap might be somewhat large there. If thats true, games like MH Wilds and GTA VI and Battlefield MIGHT struggle to come to the system IF the games are pushing xbox CPU hard. Graphics are actually easier to downgrade than CPU demanding tasks, so do keep this in mind and do mention it to your audience as well please because 'Series S' power sounds like 100% multiplat support, but that may not be the case.

For the record I expect Switch 2 to get MUCH more and better support than Switch 1, because many games simply don't push CPU that hard. E.g. Bandai Namcos fighting games should come to Switch 2 on day one this generation and run at 60 fps, unlike Switch 1 which got late ports at 30fps. Many other 3rd party games I also expect on Switch 2 running well, thanks to that beast of a GPU. But don't be surprised if some games skip entirely. If the CPU can't handle the number of simultaneous monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds, they will either skip Switch 2 or have to reduce the sizes of monster herds in the Switch 2 version, but that will only happen if it doesn't break the game. So it's a question mark.

This has been pointed out in the past but Nintendo youtubers dont want to grasp it. Part of it is due to blind faith on dlss image reconstruction (i know you talk about cpu terms here). But the reasoning in these guys heads is that just render ag 1/4 th of resolution in dlss will magicaly 4k the game for free. For the guys in that mind set be aware that the series S has that option available. The Inmortals of Albion reconstruction & frame generation results with FSR lookes quite promising. So the ceiling has go up potentially for Super Swit h vs Series S comparison.

Switch 2 teaser could be in August, pre-Gamescom with a month release announcement. That would open up third parties to at least talk about the smaller games that they’ve been developing for Switch 2 at Gamescom and TGS. In a September Direct, you get a cross-gen Direct that hints at the release date. Then you get a blowout reveal in January or VERY late December (post-Christmas, but pre-New Years Eve, maybe even December 30, which is the last Monday of 2024) giving the exact release date and is dedicated to just to next-gen releases. As for release dates, maybe either March 7 (first Friday of the month) or March 14 (second Friday of the month). I would have said March 10 for Mario Day, especially if the next major Mario game is ready for release then, but that’s a Monday and Nintendo tends to do hardware releases later in the week.

I don't believe they will want to butcher their sales forecast by announcing the next Switch. People who may purchase a console may hold off till the new one saying it wouldn't be is misguided, I think they have set the plan for reveal as March and will come out either winter 2025 or a couple of Months after the reveal. Also Nintendo has shown no desire for price cuts is it possible for sure but maybe next year. I still think prime 4 will be OG Switch and if the next machine is backwards compatible that's how it will be used. If they are going to use any game for launch it will be that new Pokémon game , it is head and shoulders the better prospect for launch sales over prime 4. To end with digital foundry and others have doubts that the new console will be 4k even with dlss, dlss is no bit of magic it still requires processing power for it to work, and reported rumours on parts the next console may not be up to it docked or otherwise. I think the new console release will follow the announcement very shortly. Once they announce the switch successor, 2 things could happen, depending on the release date: - release date is soon (let's say, within a year) = no more sales for current generation switch and they obviously don't want it to happen. - release date is far away = no implications for current switch sales for now, but given switch is already 7+ years, I don't think they will wait till 10-year anniversary. All that being said, 8-year anniversary will be on March 3, 2025, and it's a very good time to release a successor announced shortly beforehand (February, perhaps?) Also to the point of Switch teasers half a year before release - that's likely because they already had nothing to lose - Wii U sales were so low. Now they have a lot to lose as even today Switch sales pretty well. Consider the Zelda-themed switch light that releases alongside Echoes of Wisdom in late Sep - how many people will want to buy it given the successor is around the corner? Finally, for the 3DS argument - 3DS was not competing with switch, they were different platforms. You couldn't play Ocarina of Time on Switch, for example. Therefore, 3DS sales were not so dependent on Switch sales. However, remember - they promised full backward-compatibility, which means switch sales will highly depend on "Switch2" - as soon as it's available there is just no incentive to buy an old one, because you can play everything (and more!) on a new one.

I doubt we’ll have a September Direct that feels way too soon after all these announcements. Nintendo probably figured out it’s best they pace themselves and announce bangers every 6 months or so. It’s much more sustainable than every 3-4 months. Switch 2 reveal probably around Nov or Dec. In the meanwhile, there are several big Switch 1 games lined up. They do need a console price drop before Xmas though, otherwise these sales targets will remain a fantasy.

16:28 Another thing that could happen is a September Direct that's mostly focused on the current Nintendo Switch until the "One more thing" announcement at the end which is a Switch 2 reveal trailer that's like the October 2016 reveal trailer for the original Switch. Then they'll count it as their first Switch and Switch 2 combo Direct afterwards so they'll be able to count the June Direct as the last Direct focused ONLY on the current Switch. I also think all of the Directs in 2025 will be Switch and Switch 2 combo Directs with February's being a Partner Showcase if they have a Switch 2 live show in January.

i think, since Nintendo is wanting to shut down all leaks and stop games getting released before they should, i believe Nintendo will wait until January 2025 to reveal the switch successor, have a direct or direct mini in February 2025 and release the new console in march 2025

Nintendo revealing the Switch 2 in Aug would be cool and it be really funny to see a Mario and Zelda spin-off getting hit with the same treatment of messed-with sales given their status as high-tier series for Nintendo. Overall good video.

I notice preorder pages showed up for all announced games except Metroid Prime 4 Beyond. I could see this implying a bigger announcement coming soon that could coincide with the switch 2.

I do think Nintendo will give the Switch 2 reveal a bit of breathing room to not overshadow any Switch games that would be releasing. Basically, they wont announce Switch 2 any time around the release of Zelda EoW. They will also avoid announcing too close the holiday season as to no stifle sales for the Switch during its best selling season. Prime 4 is almost certainly cross gen at this point, alongside long rumored games like Zelda TP and WW, maybe even FE4 remake as well.

1. They have said there won't be any new hardware this fiscal year. So no new console before April next year at the earliest. 2. They said there will be an announcement about their new hardware this fiscal year. They never use the term "this fiscal year" when "this year" would be more appropriate so the announcement will happen some time between Jan and the end of March next year. 3. Even if the announcement is a full reveal they won't be releasing the console immediately so I'd put it's release in November 2025. Edit: this was meant to be a reply to felipee.

Just because it says March 2025 doesn’t mean the console will be released. It will just be the unveil announcement of the new hardware but cannot interfere with their current 13.5m sales goal.

Honestly, while I do think they'll give it a little room to breathe, I think the big takeaway from that announcement is that they'll probably start treating the Switch Lite as the primary version of the Switch after the next console comes out. Kind of like how we saw the New 2DS be the main model of 3DS Nintendo started pushing during the Switch's release. I think the real question is how long they'll give Brothership to breathe.

The primary version of the Switch will always be the regular model that can be docked to a TV seeing as it's literally in the name "Switch" having the choice to switch between portable play and TV play. Besides, the TV always offers a better resolution with games being able to be 900p or 1080p whereas portable play resolution is always gonna be 720p or lower.
