The answer to your question, unless intended ironically, could lie in the region itself. Eastern Europe has historically absorbed cultural influences from the east, west, and south, and occasionally from the north, while also inheriting aspects of the lifestyle of the Eastern Roman Empire (the Byzantines). While in the UK you can taste each country's cuisine and reach your own conclusion.

As everyone in Europe (and even outside of Europe) loves goulash/gulyás, goose liver and Hungarian charcuterie it would be fair to say Hungary, but Poland also has great food. In fact, all Eastern European countries have amazing food.
