Food In Czech Republic You Must Eat!! The BEST Svíčková

In this video I visit a pub with the intention to order a typical Czech meal which is called “Svíčková na smetaně” which is a traditional Czech meal served with meat and sauce on the side also knedlík which it is also one of the most popular meals in Czech Republic. It is served as tender sirloin steak prepared with vegetables, spiced with black pepper, allspice, bay leaf and thyme, and boiled with double cream and cranberry sauce It is generally served with houskové knedlík. I really enjoyed this meal and it was a great atmosphere, I also ordered a couple beers and Slivovice at this pub.

Watching this during my lunch was great! Měl jsem řízek The fun fact about svíčková is that usually the meat is not exactly svíčková part of the cow. It's "hovězí zadní" and it's much cheaper, like half the price. Original svíčková would cost like 600kč just the meat. It is my dream to taste the original one day! Just try to imagine if it's even better than what you usually get in the restaurant 🤭

600 Kč is price per kg and restaurants could get it cheaper, so 150 g slice of this meat would mean about 75 Kč and total expenses should not exceed 120 Kč per portion. But they would not offer it on lunch menu for 150 Kč for sure :)

Proboha, při vší úctě. Candle/svíčka. Je to nazvané podle nejlepší části hovězího masa, které se do přípravy omáčky promítne. Bez toho masa je to nějaké pyré, co svíčkovou připomíná. André má pravou. Ale moc se mi to líbí a paní vzkazuju, že mám rád i vegetariánské. V Praze Góvindu nikdy nevynechám. 🙂

Nejlepší svíčková je jen ve Valašském Meziříčí a to přímo v této hospodě a ještě naproti u Hromady přes cestu u hvězdárny. Příště zkuste rajskou nebo koprovku. Palec hore.

What a nice video this is! I just can't get over the cream-cranberry-lemon stuff they keep serving with svíčková. Oh, how I hate this stuff, man! My brother ordered svíčková as the main meal on his wedding this weekend and I told the waitress to bring it to me without this stuff. It would've ruined my lunch because they've made the sauce very delicious.

Actually, the name svíčková has everything to do with "candles", as a traditional dish this used to be consumed by the family together and because there was no electricity , they were eating it by the candle light :-)

Very nice video. This is exactly how czechs enjoy the summer. Restaurants, good food, beer, trips to the mountains, lakes, pools and such. The meat should be beef tenderloin, however sirloin is quite often used instead. That's definitely one of czech staples. Also, it is accustomed to leave a small tip when paying. So if you're paying like 438,- you would round it to like let's say 450,- so that you can get just 50,- coin back. I'm pretty sure neither them nor me mind. I'm just saying how we usually pay because we don't want to get our pockets heavy with change :)

Last time I was in CZ, I had some Svickova made with kralik instead of hovezi - pretty good! If you ever get the chance, check out the little town of Benesov nad Cernou, down near Ceske Budejovice. It's great.

The thing about a soup is that you can eat it immediately when you get to the restaurant while they prepare the main dish. This is especially good when you're dying of hunger so you don't want to wait 20 minutes or more for the main dish

Let me add this: There is no "universal" svíčková. Someone prepares it on a non-sweet side of the spectrum, the taste is then spicy, almost oriental, and someone prepares it on a sweet side. The colour also differs from light brown to orange or yellowish. Cranberries or lemon or cream is also mandatory (not all three at once, obviously). André - take your fiancée to the forest and pick some mushrooms, when the season will start. You will learn all the species of the mushrooms, which grow in the Czech republic... :)
