It's kinda shocking what he listens to, because its not even close to sounding like Bird's music. I really respect that, takes a huge variety of inspiration and doesn't copy it. Almost all of it is by black musicians, too, while Bird was a classically trained Suzuki Method violin player from the age of 4.

He is, but just a warning, his music doesn't sound anything like the artists he loves. Totally different style, which is weird and cool that he reaches so far out of his comfort zone. If you need a starting point, my favorite album of his is "Mysterious Production of Eggs".

BEST, ONE YET! Andrew Bird is one of my favourite recording artists. The fact that he mentioned Analog Africa & Soundway, two labels I've loved for a along time but wouldn't have figured would have been on Andrew's radar blew my mind! I love these because you can really hear how all these different music influences the musician's style and music. Andrew Bird is probably my top two artists next to Tori Amos. Love the way his mind works musically. I'd love to hear one of these from Tori Amos or Portugal The man. They have had some great in-depth interviews as far as music and id love a little more as far as the music they personally gravitate toward.
