Correspondent Rita Braver talks with Garfield about what compelled him to take on his first musical role; and with the film's director, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who reveals how he found out whether Garfield could sing.

CBS Sunday Morning is considered to be “senior citizen fare” by many, but they do the best, most well rounded stories of the people they interview, especially musicians. I’ve been watching since I was in my 30’s. I’m not quite a senior citizen now, but I can order from the senior menu at Denny’s

Agreed. My parents watched it when I was a child and I thought it was boring, but now that I’m in my 30s I appreciate the quality of the program and how thoughtful each segment is-especially the interviews.

Well that made me cry. From someone who lost their mum through cancer it just brought home that pain and how you do want to do your best for them still and make them proud. I never really watched anything with Andrew Garfield in, but I want to watch everything now. Amazing and talented. Andrew, your mum is so proud of you 💖

I just watched Tick Tick Boom, and I found it unbelievable, Andrew's performance amazed me, and to be frank they found the right actor to play the starring role. Moreover, Lin-Manuel Miranda did an extraordinary musical, which tries to teach us that Life could be the last song you listen to, even more in these days where COVID is killing thousand innocent lifes in the world.

I wld hv ignored "TIK" virtually on its title alone. But now, a "must see" thanks to this report. Mr.Garfield seems humble and lovely, but like s many, he forgets how lucky he is. It is such a luxury for him to be able to say "I CAN'T GET OUT OF BED W/O REASON..."... well, there are thousands, who still get out of bed daily, despite ever having anyone notice their resilience & their immense talent. Humble pie is too often tossed off the counter by the lucky ones, (or maybe this was just edited as such). I'm truly sorry to hear about him mom.

These types of melodies are not so.much my thing. That layer of the heroic to it is what Disney produces. Pick up any Jazz album in the 50's and those guys were all doing show tunes. Because the melodies were so strong. Even the intros, which most people don't know were great in and of themselves. This is why Spider-Man the musical didn't click. But Copolla hired Tom Waits to write the score for One From The Heart, and it gets an Oscar nom. You want quality, and memorable material that sounds classic the first time you hear it, get Tom Waits. To prove it. look up Tom Waits singing Empty Pockets/Once Upon A Time on youtube. He proves all my points.

Jonathan Larson wasn’t even gay. And by your logic, that would mean that gay actors shouldn’t be allowed to play straight characters - that’s not true either. Actors don’t play themselves the whole time. That’s the whole point. They’re telling other people’s stories.
