“Labour’s mantra is that it has no plans to increase the taxes of working people…When politicians say they have no plans, it usually means they do, but they're just not telling us.”
Andrew Neil is joined by The Times’s policy editor Oliver Wright and economist Liam Halligan to dissect Labour’s manifesto.

Also - there are loads of other taxes that "working people" pay (e.g. council tax, insurance tax, VED, luxury car tax, fuel duty, alcohol duty, sugar tax, stamp duty etc) and there is nothing stopping them introducing new taxes (e.g. road pricing, more ULEZ or congestion zones etc)

Just going about our daily lives car fuel taxes will rise, vehicle licensing will rise, insurance will be taxed, access to towns and cities will be taxed, ULEZ will be everywhere. Taxes on food and drink will rise. Everything will get more expensive so taxes are raised for Labour’s pledges.

@@reasonerenlightened2456 It is not the wealthy that will suffer most when Sir Keir with or without the advice of Lord Blair is in charge. They can afford the pain of a bit extra tax. The pension I will have after working on the shop floor for 45 years is little enough without socialists help themselves to a slice of it. The rich will have money hidden behind the best accountants and lawyers. It is not the rich who will have their daughters living next to the foreign criminals Labour will create easy legal ways into this country while shutting down any way of deporting them. It will not be the rich that suffer when working wages are kept down and house prices kept up by continuing mass immigration. It is not the rich that will suffer from increasing crowding as more houses have to be built to provide subsidised housing for immigrants. Labour has no understanding of economic growth and like Governments before them will see a decline in real economic returns. Their focus is to increase taxation as its primary means of increasing public spending. This has been going on for years and is draining the prosperity of everyone regardless of class. There needs to be a wholescale revolt against a political system that is directing the peoples savings towards individuals and corporate interests that makes a few much richer and the poor much poorer.

8.9 billion is not enough to cover the annual council budget deficits. They need to invest hundreds of billions to kick start growth. Think about it. You invest 1 billion, over 5 years how much do you think it will make in profits ? 30-40 % that's only 300 million. They need to make close to a trillion at least, that's only 200 billion profit per year. That means they need to invest 3 trillion for the 30-40 % profit (Growth).
