Could you imagine someone like Kay Burley making a speech like this. This is why politicians avoid interviews with Andrew Neil if they can because he is son knowledgeable on his subject.

I visited BBC Belfast back in the early 1990s. I was waiting to leave for my plane back to England after fixing a computer they had and was talking to one of their engineers. I said to him about how when I was younger the media were talking about a life without work, no jobs (for the majority) for the young and how this did not come to pass. He paused for a moment and said a line that I have never forgotten and often think about when watching the telly. “What you have to remember is that your average ‘Journo’ is a bit thick!”. He went on to expand on this by saying that he did not include the elite ones into this assessment but he did think the majority just parroted off trend words and ideas, sometimes without any real understanding.

On the evidence of this speech Andrew Neil should have been in politics, rather than broadcasting. A far more uplifting and clinical assessment of the scene that industry will have to work with, than anything uttered by any politician from any uk party.

He has more influence as a leading broadcaster than as a single MP.

It’s a lot easier to criticise, then to actual provide, and implement, real ideas. Andrew is phenomenal at the former, and has no track record for the latter. It makes him a perfect journalist.

This needs to said to schools colleges and universities. The staff treat anything vocational/professional the same way that a vampire treats sunlight.

I bet half the audience don’t believe him and think they are going to get lots of cheap engineering PhDs stumbling off boats in the channel to work in their crappy business for minimum wage!
