Andrew Newberg, PhD - "Neurotheology"

This lecture reviews the major foundational principles of neurotheological research, principles that will be critical to the scientist, religious or spiritual person, and the general public as this highly important topic, neurotheology, is engaged. They articulate how science and religion must interact to successfully form this new field of study. These principles consider the capabilities and limitations of science and raise theological and religious questions such as: How might neurotheology address important moral or theological questions? Can neurotheology provide a new understanding of the human mind, the human brain, and human consciousness? How can we become better thinkers?

I think we are still extremely confused about what religion, spirituality, and god are. The fact that we have terms makes us think we are on the same page. I like to look at the history of concepts to get insight. Early “gods” were what we now call natural law or phenomena. Personality used to be what “god” you followed. So yeah I think in some ways the old religious ideas are obsolete. In other ways not so much. You should do a scan of people in reference to physics and see what the difference is between the lay person and the physicist when they imagine concepts like natural laws as a control group. Also, Occam’s razor means we put a creator-god IN. Much much simpler, 😂 seriously 😳. Absolutely love the stuff about how our brains make mistakes... omg sooooo true and soooo important! Neuroepistemology!! ❤️🥰👍🏻

Excellent reminder to me of the fate that I escaped. After publishing "Neurotheology - Virtual Religion in the 21st Century" I thought we had that one settled - the term was defined as using neuroscience as the common key that can unlock the basic similarities in all world religious and offer insights. Technically neurophenomenology - if there is a God, a brain made out of neurons couldn't image it anyway, so it remains opinion of course. Go to the KZbin definition - you'll hear about my book - but most people wanted to know what happens when we die. What I learned here was that if I had tried to push the idea that I have originated the term before Dr. Newberg, I'd end up where he is in this clip. Addressing a sparse audience of less than 40 in a large hall, he does a good job of explaining the way he sees it. This is the problem ... nobody cares - hah - so we're udating and republishing as "You're Going to Heaven Whether You Like it Or Not" - of course it's an illusion - but - um - so is everything else the brain dreams up - so you won't know it's actually brain death you're experiencing. Looks to be nice!

Laurence McKinney i was sent to a mental hospital for an experience just like this. I felt almost as if google was an omniscient observer in my life... watching every step and every tap on my phone... while i was locked in a white walled hospital i was searching for any kind on information i could get my hands on because i just had so many questions. One of the books i found was a tiny Buddhist book that is titled "Anyone can go to Heaven, Just be Good; the path to heaven and beyond to Nibbana" by T Y Lee. It explained a lot about the feeling of meditation and enlightenment. While i was reading it, i felt like it was only clarifying my experience. It had words that pieced together parts of what i felt was going on with me. In my opinion, heaven is the right here and now and god is just a word to describe the reason behind the sense/feeling. I feel like everyone has their own inner sense of god but only some can access it. I really dont know. The more i look for answers, the more questions i come across....

so are you saying it is futile ? i want to persue research in the feild. is it a total waste of time? i was hoping that some kind of extraordinary breakthrough would come of the feild. maybe we understand consciousness etc. please guide
