Me: I'd listen to Andrew Peterson sing the phone book. Andrew: I've got a better idea.

Our church has all the kids perform this song every Christmas program. My son is old enough to join in this year, so we're working on memorizing it!

Our pastor had our worship pastor sing it for all three services every Sunday on December. Not 100% sure but I think it was a friendly game of punish your brother in law 😂

Our worship leader is having us play this song on Sunday morning 😂

That's a good worship leader. I was telling my sons,, "Imagine being God almighty and spending as much time and text on genealogies as your did the brutal and violent death of your own son." If it's important enough for God to write about, it's important enough for us to sing about!!

I'm just over here trying to figure out who is "Good old Rehoboam". My bible doesn't describe him as one of the good guys.

One of my favorite Christmas songs of all time! I just wish that he'd pronounced "Abiud" with a long "i," just like "Eliud."

Some of these names are differently spelled than in my Bible, like Asa=Asaph, Jechoniah is the name after Josiah. Any thoughts of the different spellings?
@tayh.62354 жыл бұрын
It's hard to anglicize spellings from some languages, I guess. I know a lot of middle eastern names are spelled differently depending who's spelling them.

Different Bible version maybe... also could be a tiny, tiny bit of artistic license in there
@knyghten593 жыл бұрын
Depends on your Bible translation--Matthew is writing Hebrew names from the Old Testament, but he's writing in Greek for the New Testament, so there's a little difference there (before we even get to turning the Greek names into English). Some translations (like the one Andrew Peterson is using, maybe) do the extra work to compare the Old and New Testament versions of the names to make sure they're rendered the same (or at least similar) for the English reader. Other versions, like the King James, don't do that.
