Excellent video on Vocal Reverb. Thank you very much. It helped me set Reverb & Delay correctly. I was struggling with Vocal Reverb & Delay for many months.

Nice tip - and I have all those plugins - thanks muchly. I'm wondering whether this would be the same for all parts, I.e. filter out top and bottom. I know that some producers like to side chain a compressor so that the reverb blooms more in the spaces between vocal lines....thoughts?
@GreenLightSound2 жыл бұрын
This works for any part if you want the reverb to be less obvious. I sometimes sidechain a compressor to the vocal, depending o how high the reverb level is in the mix. Same thing with delays.

Hi.. New subscriber here.. Great content!! I have a doubt.. I have seen built-in low pass - high pass controls in certain reverb plugins.. Would that be sufficient in making the frequency cuts or does adding a dedicated EQ make any difference?
@GreenLightSound2 жыл бұрын
The built in EQ on some reverbs is totally fine, as long as it has the range you're looking for. No need for a dedicated EQ in that case, unless you want to make other changes.

I'm a subscriber and HUGE fan. Love this video but I have a question on an unrelated topic: I'm trying to do screencast videos using Quicktime byt the problem is when screencast recording my DAW and them render the Quicktime screencast as a .mp4 movie file, i lose the stereo mix....everything sounds mono. Any ideas why this happens and which screencast software do you recommened for Apple Mac?
@GreenLightSound3 жыл бұрын
I don't know why QuickTime renders to mono, but I use ScreenFlow for my screen captures and highly recommend it.

i could be wrong since i don't know UAD, but is that a 40ms pre-delay on the far right switch of the EMT? just curious since there was no corresponding pre-delay on the Valhalla

the EMT 250 is a digital reverb (probably the FIRST digital reverb), it's not in any way a "plate"
@GreenLightSound3 жыл бұрын
True, I meant it in the sense that it was designed as an alternative to the EMT 140.
@weedywet3 жыл бұрын
@@GreenLightSound I'm not sure it was meant to sound like a plate, it certainly doesn't! in the same way that EMT had previously made the 240 Gold FOIL reverb, again not a plate. Just their attempts at different reverbs. I remember reading way back that the original 140 Plate was actually trying to emulate the riveter of a particular stone church they thought was ideal. But needless to say a plate reverb doesn't sound like a church, and a gold foil doesn't sound like a plate, and the 250 digital doesn't wound like any of those. Love a 250, I've used them since they first came out in the late 1970s on just about every record I've made, but they are nothing like plate reverb, in or out of the box.
@ombilicdes8 ай бұрын
The Sanctuary algorithm in Valhalla Vintge Verb is inspired by the EMT-250. That would probably be a better substitute for the UAD EMT-250.@@GreenLightSound

I think it’s worth noticing that Andrew tells specifically in the mixing template video that he change the actual settings in his reverb a lot from song to song and that he have no idea what the specific settings shown will sound like.

No inside info, and I'm a bit worried too. There are many engineers who were burned when Gibson bought Cakewalk/Sonar, then ceased development of the software. Hope that doesn't happen here - I would prefer not to go back to Pro Tools!

Are you kidding? Just your basic reverb setup. By the way, there's still ubnoxious level of sibilance, tune it down; use your ears instead of blindly copying settings.
@GreenLightSound3 жыл бұрын
I'm just presenting it the way he does it. As I said in the video, the vocal had no processing on it yet, so no de-esser. The de-esser plus the 6.6K filter would tame the sibilance.

Are you kidding? Just tone down the hostile vibe. I was also slightly wondering why a reverb send warrants a 6min video, but then again there are people who are doing this for the first time, and it's great to have tried and tested settings to start off with and step by step hand holding style tutorial.
