While I agree with your philosophy that news should be as unbiased as it can, this way of thinking hasn’t been true since the fair coverage law was abolished in the 80’s. If you want to win elections, you need to obtain coverage from your party’s prime news outlet, for Andrew Yang, in this case, that’s MSNBC. It’s a sad but true reality. Sure, it needs to be changed, but that’s another conversation.

My rough estimate, that is 28 billion dollars worth of campaign funding in the hands of US voters. This "proletariat lever" easily out weighs the 3.4 billion of total corporate lobbying in 2018. This addresses a power imbalance and puts policy making back into the collective voter's hands.

Every time you, the American consumer, receive a robocall on your phone, the federal government shall collect a $15 tax/toll from the telemarketer, as well as charge the phone service provider that serviced the call-- Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc.-- a $10 "UBI" fee. Telemarketers send 26 billion such calls (and text msgs!) to Americans every year. Doesn't matter what form an ad takes, whether via Internet or by phone, Telemarketers must not get away with free robocalling. I urge Mr. Yang to consider robocall taxing as a financing solution for his UBI policy.

A real example of what UBI could bring. There is an example in history which an equivalent of UBI came into existence and it literally changed the world as we know it to this day. This occurred roughly in 700 BC in Ancient Athens Greece and they called it THE OLIVE TREE ECONOMY. First let me begin by describing the what had occurred and the effects of this action to those unfamiliar to this period in history. Let's begin with the conditions and the general situation at that place and time. Approximately 700 years before Christ, the people of ancient Greece were moving from a tribal culture to a more urbane existence. With that shift away from hunting and farming came a new set of outlooks which ultimately would affect the development of the entire western world. The Greeks began to think about of what they called NOMOS, or the laws of custom. This would be something different from DIKE’, or Justice. Hunters became Shepards, and Farmers became Merchants as the entire civilization underwent deep-seated changes. With these shifts in the economic sphere it would affect the Sociopolitical environment. Such as our current situation with the change being brought on by automation and robotics. These pre-Socratic Greeks began to understand it was possible to use their political organization to shape and control their world rather than merely being pawns of fate. Soon with the growth of commerce an emerging new class would form into a trading class. Soon after Athens would slide into bitter class fighting, inflation, and turmoil. Inflamed conditions led to the rise of a Tyrant a man named DRAKON ‘The Lawgiver” who came into power. You can say he was Tyrant poster boy, he is the famous Tyrant which Draconian Laws are attributed to. He established Heavy-handed practices which had worsened the situation to the point the situation would become ruinous. The party of the poor begged for a mediator to be appointed as a go-between. This led to a man named SOLON. Solon was named Archon or referee. He was given broad powers to act rapidly. Upon coming to power, he abolished the slave mortgage system that had been around for some time. Under this economic mechanism a man could mortgage himself and his family for loan collateral. Solon freed those in this type of debtor's prison and authorized a program to plant miles and miles of Olive Orchards to be given to the less fortunate citizens of Athens. This gesture had a profound effect not only the Athenian culture but one could argue it affected Western Civilization as a whole! The Olive Tree Economy was the one singular action that would set the stage for the Golden Era of Ancient Greece. Why you might say? It is important to understand how valuable of a commodity that is the Olive. Olives trees and their harvest required but little effort to maintain which would allow one the luxury of free time. It took about 20% of a yearly season to attend to. And the harvest of the Olives provided the income that one could sustain through the entire year. This valuable commodity had multiple uses that can be traded, exported, exchanged for other objects of value. As long as a person was content with an adequate and wholesome materially so-so lifestyle, the olive orchards were marvelous. So you ask how does this event impact and affect the entire Western Civilized world? Well with 20% percent of your time occupied with work on the olives, it left 80% the rest of the year free to do as you desired. The free time from drudgery and labor meant the freedom to question and exchange thoughts with others. This new freedom to explore and to share the knowledge from their explorations would eventually catch like a wildfire and lead to the creation of Science, Philosophy, Theater, Democracy, the Arts. This freedom allowed these results to come into fruition all from the seeds of Olive Tree Economy. UBI can be the catalyst such as the Olive Trees were to produce similar results of a society of greatness.

We need to get rid of centralized government and implement direct democracy via blockchain (liquid democracy). UBI is great but we need to redistribute company shares rather than wealth. Corporations are amoral, they only seek to secure the interests of their stockholders, so give that power back to the people rather than going after them with regulations.

Yang wants to replace our current democracy with "democracy dollars", $100 from the government per citizen which can be donated to the candidate of their choice / preventing candidates from taking corporate and big money funding. Elon Musk mentioned having a block chain flat direct democracy on Mars though.

Mark Schmidt I think Yang is a step in the right direction for sure, but when it comes down to it I think Churchill was right, democracy is a bad system of government, it's just the rest are the worse. Sure it's mob rule, but the way I see it, at this point it's either the people rule or *they* rule. Flawed as we are, at least we have our own interests at heart, which is more than I can say for *them* and their ilk.

If you give everyone 1000 per month. How do you prevent the company they work at from „stealing“ that money by simply cutting their salary by 1000?
@donalain693 жыл бұрын
@Bubby because it would drastically increase the company’s profit (and with it raises the money a CEO earns by way more than 1000k a month)

Because people can then choose to work for another company without fearing starving.

Why would they stop working? Seriously. Explain that. Why would someone quit their job because they make an extra 1000 to 1,400 a month? They would be making their wage plus their UBI. If they quit they would only be living off their UBI, which isn't realistic.
