What would this look like written in standard notation? Can you do a short video on that?
@Guitar-Ed2 жыл бұрын
I have been thinking the same thing since the start of this just intonational journey! I would love to see and hear the two side by side! There is some software that can do a spectral analysis of the two (Sonic Visualizer and others). I think looking at the overtones etc and how the overtones differ in one of the just intonation arrangements compared to a standard tuning of that same piece might really be enlightening.
@AndrewYorkguitar2 жыл бұрын
The notation looks normal. However, first we need to know what key the just intonation is in. In this case, the guitar is intonated for just in D major. For Threadbare Dance, I went out of D major to use the 'out of tune' intervals to create tension and interesting effects. But the notation looks straight forward.

Such an interesting tonal colors in this, and excellent cinematography to match 👏! I like how you're pushing the boundaries of the expected 😎. Ought to make folks who have a certain idea of what guitar playing should sound like, and are outraged when anyone should play differently, think twice about what guitar music _can_ be.

It goes without saying that this is excellence incarnate. Having said that, I find it more than a little disturbing, as if Andrew has tapped directy into every fear or self-doubt I've ever had, every bit of frustration and angst I've had in 2.5 years of Covid being among us, and every horror filled moment I've experienced since the Ukraine war exploded on the scene. This proves great musical artistry doesn't always have to sound "warm, fuzzy and reasurring" like "Home" did.
@AndrewYorkguitar2 жыл бұрын
Herr Unsinn, thanks for your powerful response. I don't intend to evoke unsettling emotions, but I feel great art should have the ability to awaken the listener to deeper currents without and within. I'm glad you were in the undercurrent with me there.
