2:37, an expression of the soul calling out to the universe, a hint of bittersweetness ... moving towards a joyous release, a completion, triumphant in the brief reprise at 3:51 ... a most beautiful passage :) over the years it's given me great comfort to play it over and over again in my bedroom and enjoy the Christmassy warmth and richness of those sounds, and the satisfaction of really getting those harmonics to ring! When I was learning this, I had some trouble with the rhythm so I practiced by playing each chord as an eighth-note arpeggio to fit the dotted-quarter or quarters-tied-across-thebar or whatever. And I really really liked the way that sounded so I sometimes play it that way on some of the repeats. I love the melody and chord progressions in this. Very satisfying to play. Thanks so much for the music!

It's all about the theme first. The imagination then creates the music to that theme. Andrew will always have new material. It's just what he does.

I love this piece and took time to learn it a few years back (you play it better than me! 😉). As evident from your video, there's a strong rhythmic feel here. I'm interested that all of the little flurries, that I thought may be improvised, are present and correct here, exactly as played on the recorded version.

I think it suits the steel string better than nylon. And a steel string can be adjusted to have a really low action thus making this piece less of a nightmare to play! Tommy Emmanuel uses a very low action on his steel string guitars.

When I was studying at the Sydney Conservatorium in 2000 everybody was playing this piece on their fancy new lattice braced guitars. With somewhat mixed results I have to say..

Andrew, Andrew, Andrew... I discovered your music when I studied music at college, 1st session. A true work of art. Since I learned your song, By candlelight, I always come back to listen/play it and each time, the same feeling: this song is so relaxing, yet satisfying. Each time I hear it, it just relaxes my soul. As someone with high anxiety issue, this song calms me each time I hear it... it's like a burst of emotions each time and I love it! Keep going, your music is so underrated and deserves to be heard from everyone!
