I think we like Andrew's channel because he's really great at doing a whole bunch of different things, doing it with machinery and vehicles that he acquired used (not new with a loan and all the overhead that goes with that), that he repaired/refurbed/maintains himself, in a maintenance garage he built himself, in a home (a one of a kind home in fact) he built himself, where he has a hot tub/cool firepit/outdoor entertainment area he built himself; and most of the time, he figures out how to do all this without any help!!! And somehow he does all this plus business projects AND videos/edits/publishes his project content to share with us!! Yes, l love this channel too!!! I'm a fan Andrew!!

That would be a great video. I was following a yahoo that had a 3/4 ton dodge, pulling a flat trailer. His safety chains on the trailer had like 1/4" grade 3 bolts holding the broken chain together and just had a hook of broken edm trucker strap "locking" the hitch closed. I wanted to smack him so hard up the side of the head, not that it would do any good. which reminds me I need to replace the safety chains on my trailer, one of the safety catches just fell off.

Super Dave ah okay. I'm used to people not realizing how big potholes can be. I think the biggest pothole here was when part of a paved road collapsed. I mean the road should be there and it's now a hole, that makes it a pothole right?
@taliakuznetsova70926 жыл бұрын
Bob Joncas that reminded me. I think someone somewhere actually caught a fish in a pothole sometime. That must of been a interesting story to tell. Like the time i/we/my department caught a fish with the fire truck.

I just got turned on to your channel recently and have been binge watching the past two weeks. Your work is outstanding. Your ability to repair your equipment is admirable. And your video production value has raised the bar for everyone. Would you be able to do a video on how you priced this job? Or a similar job? Your "How i got started in Excavating" video is excellent. I think this job is 'average' enough that you could say - ok, this driveway is 200 yards long. It'll take me 3 hours to grade it and 3 hours to 'Tailgate' it. And it will take me 8 loads in my 8 tonne dumptruck. 1 load/8 tonnes of 1" gravel is $200 bucks and I like to pay myself $50 bucks and hour - which has to cover insurance, fuel, etc.... Other things to consider when pricing/quoting a job... That sort of thing?
@AndrewCamarata5 жыл бұрын
I charged $650 for the labor, and $500 per load of stone. I think it was 7 loads. I stone cost me like $220 per load.

I live on a dirt road maintained by the town of Pittstown 20 minutes from the Capital of New York in Rensselaer County... the town comes through with a grader twice a year and we always have potholes, washboards, etc...Andrew’s work looks and lasts so much better than our government maintained roads. As a child in the 60’s we lived at the end of SilverHollow Road in Willow NY, I was amazed how much of that formerly desolate road had been paved, right up to the Greene County Line! My parents purchased the 210 acres for $27,000.00 back in 1962, it sold a few years ago for 3.2 million dollars....shows how property values can lead to public road improvements!!!

Good Day Andrew, I hope you could help me understand something. My family have invested in a mountain and were having to build a road to the location we plan to build our container house. Currently our rough grade road is maximum of 20 degree slope going up. The distance to the top is about 3/4 of a mile. at the moment we plan to put crush n run! There is also a creek that will cross that were considering a concrete bridge or using spanner concrete panels, at the moment we get washout a lot and have to ford the water about 60 feet if it's not flowing to hard that is. my question is two part if you might be able to help me a little with this. The road were considering dropping drycrete ... Would you have any recommendations for such grade we have to contend with to keep the road from washing out! perhaps any recommendations to the bridge we might need to build! I think the maximum load on the bridge would be 60 tons.
@AndrewCamarata5 жыл бұрын
Try your best to keep the water on the sides of the road, that means ditches on the edge, crown the road, water bars, and culverts. When surfacing the road; larger stone is much less likely to wash out. Build a bridge than can hold cement trucks. An engineer will be able to tell how much weight your design will hold.
@norfizamdnor83565 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the recommendations you share. We are working on keeping the road crowned. I know at some points it's a questionable option as the road will meet the rock wall. Where we can w are installing 24-36 inch culvert pipe to keep water moving away from the road. one side is sheer cliff but water is running down toe rock face at some points on the hi side of the road. We still working on the plans for the bridges. as they need to be concrete with re-bar reinforcement..
@JR-rf3zw5 жыл бұрын
on the roads/driveways with numerous potholes, can you attach a road grinder to bobcat/skidsteer and grind the base first - then apply more gravel?
@AndrewCamarata5 жыл бұрын
Probably, that's what happened in the middle. But the dozer does a nice job crowing it and digging drainage ditches.

Andrew Camarata that’s why I asked, same problem with my drive way aggravating
@sanfranciscobay6 жыл бұрын
I don't do road repairs. I would think they start small, and then every time you drive over them, they get slightly larger. I think the key is to fill them using a shovel and wheelbarrow or truck bed full of gravel before they get larger. Maintain the road as soon as you see low spots and grade the road so water runs off to the side.

>^. .^< People not in the excavation biz do not realize that the faster you drive down a gravel road, the more energy you transfer to the stone and thus the faster and further the stone gets thrown from the spot where you roll ovet it with your tire...... Than you ad in a bend in the road and that adds what is called "angular momentum" to the stone as you roll over it so teh faster you go problem is still there but you add the throwing out the stone due to centrifical forces...... Than you add in one more item to the two described above (speed and bends in the road) and that is water. Speeding thru even shallow puddles of water creats a mini Tsunami and the water wave made by your tire washes out little rocks even faster and speeds up pot hole making to it's ultamate growth factor..... Actuallly the balck top is basicly just glue holding the little stones in place thats all and why black top roads are so smooth until pot holes develop.......
@____________________________.x6 жыл бұрын
I’d assumed potholes were dug out, filled with larger rock and then smaller rock? Kinda thinking there must be a reason why they slumped in that spot.

Andrew, perhaps you could install woven driveway fabric (12.5' x 432) on that driveway for the owners, then cover it with crushed stone? Once installed it would be close to a real road. A place that sells a variety of geotextile products, there are a lot of choices available : www.landscapediscount.com/Driveway-Fabric-12-5-x-432-Woven-p/df-200-125x432.htm www.landscapediscount.com/default.asp
