Update: just changed oil in the beetle for the first time. Dude your video made it so easy. Thank you so much for this info. I ordered extra drain plugs and compression washers too. Simple and easy and saves so much money over having a dealer do it.

I was so ready to learn how to change my own oil in 2017 after a local shop charged me $90. I completely missed the fact I'd need a jack to make the underneath accessible! 😂 Still an interesting video, very helpful to at least have an idea of how it works.

Please remember to always, ALWAYS use jack stands. Working under a vehicle supported only by hydraulic floor jacks is just asking for trouble.

Great video and well explained. Nice that your year only requires 5w30. Mine specs 5w40. Also, I would have two co-pilots to avoid conflict. The only missing part you may consider in future videos is the use of jack stands. These bugs are so low to the ground if one or both of your jacks failed, your co-pilot would have to pilot. Otherwise, awesome explanation. I was having dealer do mine as the cost of oil, filter, washer...etc was only 10-15$ less than they were charging. Now they've doubled and I refuse to pay. Thank you sir!

That reset piece was gold! I wonder why you don't level the car for complete drain and then relift? Can you advise re: my back-up and side alerts now do not default to "ON" every time I start the car after I have activated on previous drive. This started with new battery install. Previously the setting was always "ON", unless I changed it. Thank you!

When I lift the front of the car. It actually tilts the oil pan so the drain bolt is lower? So I feel I’m getting all of the oil out. I hope that makes sense. I don’t have an answer for the 2nd question you added. I do know vw’s act a little funny after a battery change. Like the windows auto lowering/raising when opening doors can be off. They fixed them selves after a few drives.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to cut an access hole through the skid plate to access the oil drain plug for easier, faster oil changes. What are your thoughts on this?
@AndrewDeVries211 Жыл бұрын
Honestly not a bad idea. Cut enough space to turn a ratchet. I’ve seen different 1/4 valves for Toyota trucks in place of the drain bolt. Wonder if someone has one for vw, that would be nice.

If you use an oil extraction pump you will have no need to go under the car. I've used a Pela 6000 for years. Since this car has the filter on top it makes the job super easy and clean.

Wait, how much oil did you actually initially put in?
