Found a plastic material called "foamed PVC board", for replacing the bottom plate for my seat rebuild. It is 50% lighter than a regular PVC board, and has good characteristics for this type of application.

That is good to know! Maybe it takes staples better as well. The stuff I used was very tough.

@@Garage_Tinkerer Yeah, it is pretty malleable, I was able to cut the corners just using a mora knife. Regarding the staples, it is a apples to pears comparison, as I am using the slightly wider T-50 staples, as this stapler is much more heavy duty. I have no problems punching into a thick plastic cutting board with it, and that plastic is more dense than the foamed PVC board...
