Really that overpriced? It's a decently built hardware with really neat software. AFAIR audio software IS expensive, as most "creative pro" software. A package like that for like $1400 is a pretty regular price. Of course you can do almost everything that device can do with a PC or MAC and some FREE software, but not nearly as convenient and fast. It's like with Photoshop and GIMP. You will do with GIMP almost all you can do with Photoshop, but if you're pro and you need super fast and convenient way to do your job - PS just pays off.

I get around the velocity sensitivity by adjusting the envelope to a very short attack, so if you hit the key really quick, it plays the sound quietly. There are a few all-in-one production instruments that are cheaper. Generally these are called "grooveboxes". There are also older groovebox models, like the Yamaha RM1X, Roland MC-505, et al; these range in quality from "okay" to "legendary", though they're old and no longer being made, so they're more likely to need repairs or retrofitting before being reliable to use. honestly i think having 4 tracks to record with limiting in a good way, it requires more creativity to cram everything you want into only 4 tracks. i mean, John Frusciante was able to create the sprawling Niandra LaDes and Usually Just a T-Shirt with a 4 track.

Is it possible to create various drums loops at different bpms and play synth at the same time? Seems super clunky in the tape. Would love to have a synth that does both in a compact package.

I've used several DAW's and found myself ending up with Propellerhead Reason. It's not a particularly popular choice because it doesn't have all the standard plugins (which changed very recently actually). I found it to have a pretty smooth learning curve. I hate to say it, but I do think you'd be best off pirating several DAW's and play around with them for a while. It takes time to find out if producing is something for you and if yes, with what software.

@alexanderfalkhammar30684 жыл бұрын
@Niger Nelly Not really, most people who try the OP-1 really dislike it. It does a few things well and everything else it's bad at to the point where you don't want to make music with it. The ones who like it really like it, the rest wouldn't incorporate it in their recording setup unless they were forced at gunpoint.
@alexanderfalkhammar30684 жыл бұрын
@Niger Nelly You said; "Every artist love the synth", that's kind of a broad and bold statement. I've worked with music for 10 years and neither I nor any of my producer friends actually like the OP-1. There are hundreds of other synths that can sound like it and it's not fun to work with. Furthermore, the limitations of the synth, like the number of tracks for recording and limited editability make most tunes made with the OP-1 sound like they were made on a OP-1 (that's not a compliment). If people want to buy an OP-1, then that's their prerogative. But saying that everyone loves the OP-1 sets really bad expectations for people who have to save up to buy one.

That was a great review. You have answered all my questions about that particular product in four and a half minutes. And you did it with humor. 2:39 it's only $1000 (or more) if you want one NOW. I just picked one up off ebay for a cool $800 which is damn near the original retail price a few years ago (now it retails for 1200 from the manufacturer, and it's never in stock). after checking the listings everyday for about 2 months, i found a dude who picked his up cheap and chose to pass the savings on to me, simple as that. i still count myself lucky though, his offer was only up for half a day before i bought it!
